Very driven and competitive company. Hard driving and cut throat. Tough to get started in if you lack certain skills. But overall positive. More characters.

SENIOR INSPECTOR (Former Employee) –  Naples, FLMay 23, 2018
I had no issues at Stantec they provided anything and everything you need to do your job, I would continue to work for them if not for Hurricane Irma and was sad to go. Great Co-workers all around.

I enjoyed working as an intern for Stantec. They have a good company culture, paid well, and I had the opportunity to learn a lot about the industry from my coworkers.

Managers need to be fired
Surveyor (Former Employee) –  Laurel, MDMay 17, 2018
Managers causing stressful work situations with individuals they oversee. Managers not only yell at coworkers, but undermine them/their work. Managers also have been known to yell at clients. That lead to clients not wanting to work with Stantec any longer.

VICE PRESIDENT, IT, BUSINESS SYSTEMS INTEGRATION (Current Employee) –  Broomfield, COApril 25, 2018
Good people all doing their best. Good place for a job, but not for a career. Top down approach to management stymies empowerment and lacks accountability.
Pros
Stable
Cons
Career advancement

Small office in large company with fantastic attitude
CAD Designer (Current Employee) –  Logan, OhApril 17, 2018
Everybody is committed to their motto: "Building communities". They all take their work seriously and professionally, working unbelievably hard to do the right thing, not just make the money. As a consultant helping small communities find funding and workable designs for necessary (and frequently mandated) water and sewer projects, they walk a difficult line of meeting federal or state regulations and guidelines while helping non-technical folk understand and complete projects that can be overwhelming to a small village or town council.

The engineers are sharp and personable, willing to explain even small details, while encouraging everybody to jump in and do all that they are capable of.

Information is freely shared, they are open to new ideas, and have great camaraderie among employees. High recommended location to work!
Pros
Frequent lunches, great management, holidays and sick days off, VERY positive attitudes
Cons
"Nature of the industry" issues, constantly changing designs and priorities, coordinating multiple and competing objectives

Management Consulting Analyst (Current Employee) –  Denver, COApril 16, 2018
Such a large firm that people are focused on their own projects and don't really have any idea what else is happening within the company. Definitely lived the cube life.

Depending on which division or manager will effect your experience. Co-workers are pleasant. As the company has grown it has moved more "corporate".

Very unorganized and Lacks Diversity.
Human Resource Representative/Benefits Focus Rep (Former Employee) –  Phoenix, AZ 85048March 9, 2018
I was laid off with very little notice. Stantec is lacks diversity more than any company I have ever seen. You would think you were flashed back to 1950. The company is ran by middle age white men with no women or people of color in the top tier positions. Stantec has a lot of potential but the first thing they need to do is work on their diversity and find away to better organize the day to day operations.

Senior Transportation Engineer (Former Employee) –  Cincinnati, OHMarch 7, 2018
The Transportation Business Center that I was assigned to had quality people that were skilled at their jobs and cared about producing a good product. With recent project wins the group should have a profitable year.

Document Controls Specialist (Current Employee) –  Albany, NYMarch 6, 2018
Most of the worker bees are great to interact with. Typically, once you hit management, it's quite toxic. People usually have to stomp on the backs of others to get promoted.

Construction Administration Architect (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLMarch 6, 2018
My job initially was 20% in office and 80% on job sites. I learned a great deal about the VA and hospital construction. Management was flexible. The hardest part was perhaps the long drives to job sites. I enjoyed the constant interaction with the owner representatives and not being exposed to office politics.
Pros
Staff Volley Ball team on Monday nights!
Cons
Long drives.

It's a large company and the work environment can vary. That variation depends on the office location and local management.
Civil Designer, EIT (Former Employee) –  San Antonio, TXMarch 2, 2018
It's a large company and the work environment can vary. That variation depends on the office location and local management. My experience with the company was not very long. When business is flowing and you're utilization rate is where it should be, it can be an ideal job.

Overall a great place to work
Promotions Manager- Southeast (Current Employee) –  Nashville, TNMarch 1, 2018
Overall, Stantec is a great place to work. It has really been a great experience for me because of the flexibility. In my role, I have always been able to 'own' my role without much micromanaging. There is a focus on professional development, as well.
Pros
flexible work schedule & the people are very welcoming and awesome to work with
Cons
no upward advancement in marketing
