There's A LOT of cons and rare pros here

As an Adult Mental Health Case Manager, you’re at the bottom of the totem. The pay is ridiculously awful and you put a lot of wear and tear on your personal vehicle. Clients are treated as a $$ and therefore, the basic and most simple treatment is given. Directors are more worried and concerned about the AMHCM meeting their productivity hours, not the clients and definitely not the CM themselves. Case Managers are expendable, there's no appreciation and other departments look down on them. Starcare was known to be the Behavioral Health hospital to help individuals without insurance or the inability to see doctors regularly and to me, it's a joke and all about greed. Even the clients complain about the constant change in CMs. It's nice to pay your employees a decent salary and even better to respect and appreciate them. It'll never change and I caution anyone who considers a job there in the "lower" ranks.

admin staff is awful and mean. some great benefits though. The coworkers are friendly. I enjoy the time off but not a lot of support from upper management.

Supportive

Over the years I spent at Starcare, I was supported by the team and my supervisor especially when I had 2 family deaths in one year. Understanding people but my role was essentially a dead end with no salary change.

Flexible

I really l loved it. Good balance between work and life. They were very flexible. Manager was amazing , I loved her. They were willing to always work with me and help me . Great mentor

Flexible hours

Love the association as a whole. My specific occupation is flexible, but you have to be meant for the occupation. There’s stress involved with scheduling and care giver stress as well

Case manager

Caseload was 200-250 after 2 weeks of training, having to drive to peoples homes for assessments, and very severe mental health cases. Clients were overall kind but some felt unsafe to be in the homes alone with. Managers gave minimal options to ensure we felt safe doing our jobs.

Poor Management & Don’t Care About Their Employees

The number one advice I can give is, RUN! This company has poor management from the top, all the way down. They do not care about their employees and expect that you put your family second to a job.

Unfair Pay

As a case manager there was alot of work for barely any pay. I did not feel it was worth it but was only there for my internship. It can be very stressful. They dont allow overtime and there is not nearly enough time to get everything done. You drive your own car so you run alot of miles and must do more maintenance on your car. They Compensation for mileage but thats it. I did like working alone and enjoyed the flexible.

Productive and fun place to work.

I enjoy the team I work with, my supervisor, the flexability and hybrid work environment. The benfits are great and I was able to have my student loans forgiven.

Exhausting

Hard to watch staff with poor attitudes treat patients. Burn out is real. Can be a very rewarding place to work but getting support is difficult. Pay isn’t great.

Management truly cares for their staff and wants to see you succeed.

Great flexibility as long as you complete your work. Definitely requires good time management and organization skills. Management and other coworkers are always great about working as a team. Biggest downside is low pay.

Great environment and steady work!

I worked with some amazing co-workers, my managers were awesome! However, the down side is the low pay. You’re likely to make more at a restaurant or retail. Great opportunity for growth and experience.

Great work environment, flexibility, opportunities for advancement and managers who want to see people succeed. While working human services can be challenging, the rewards of helping people get better lives outweigh those challenges.

Inclusive and supportive

Overall I feel as though my time at StarCare has been nothing short of amazing for my overall career goals. I started in an entry level position and within 5 years of being with the company, I have promoted to director. The management really does care about your long term goals and will do what they can to assist in your growth. All the teams I have worked with - have been the same - Amazing!

Low pay job that is somewhat rewarding

Good place to make a difference in kid's lives if you know how to separate work from personal life. High stress, low reward, low pay. Not enough guidance from upper management or supervisors. I only knew my immediate supervisor and never met anyone higher even though I worked there almost a year. I felt disconnected and felt like my mental health was on the back burner to the job. Good PTO and flexible job.

Lack of management

There's no management, you have to train yourself. When there is management you are told downy ways that things are supposed to be done. The management let's favorite slack off.

Great company for anyone needing flexibility

Great work, life balance. Management understands that there are other priorities in a person’s life and allows flexibility to deal with family. Great opportunity for advancement as well.

Don't apply. Run away

This is not a good place to work. Staff are treated poorly. You only get a raise after working there for 3 years. Little chance of moving up. Don't trust anyone there.
