Reviews for Social Worker in State of Hawaii
Lack of leadership
Social Worker (Former Employee) - Oahu Island, HI - July 18, 2021
The State has great benefits, private sector cannot compare, but this is also a con because employees abuse it. The pay is mediocre at best and employees then complain about wanting more money when there is a pay scale for civil service. At HSH, there is a lack of leadership across all departments and no one is held accountable for not doing their job. So morale is low.. There is no communication and no transparency so enter at your own risk. I have been State for more than 15yrs, HSH is the worst by far.
Pros
Independence
Cons
Lack of supplies, antiquated computers, no support

Poor clinical care
Social Worker (Former Employee) - Kaneohe - September 29, 2023
Staffed with dedicated professionals, however, the overall system is inadequate and doesn't meet the needs of its patients. Management is not responsive.

Management at your worksite makes a difference
Social Worker (Current Employee) - Maui, HI - September 18, 2023
Change is not always good. Where I currently work you get zero rewards for hard work and loyalty. The few honest employees that work at my job site gets stuck with all of the work that the other employees always find an excuse not to do. This brings down morale and creates resentment towards our fellow colleagues. When we tell our supervisors and document incidents, nothing gets done. The sad part about this is we are supposed to be helping the public and we fail our clients when we cannot work as a team and are understaffed and have a high turnover rate. Upper management does nothing. They act like they care but their actions speak louder than words.
Pros
Retirement benefits after you put in your time
Cons
Zero rewards for hard work and loyalty
