Good work environment great pay and benefits

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Working this job you’ll earn great pay and the same in benefits. You can max out your salary at 115K. No overtime available which is a shame. Dead end job unless you want to be a supervisor, but sup positions come around every ten years

The meanest workplace you will ever have a job.

This is the meanest place I've ever worked, employees are treated like criminals, there is no flexible working though they say there is, it's a hostile work environment

The pay is fair and benefits are decent. You get mandatory every other day. Supervisors don't care because they don't get mandatory. Forced to work under staff

Ethics violations

The place is a good place to work if they did not force you to break the Attorney Code of Professional Ethics. They punish you for following the code.

Popularity Contest - Not for Introverts

If you're working in a customer-oriented position like an agency services rep or any job that involves dealing with the public, let me tell you, it's tough. Especially if you're someone who genuinely cares about others. The office politics and gossip can be overwhelming, and the training they provide is minimal at best. Even if you try to stay neutral, it feels nearly impossible. You can't be too quiet or too friendly; there's a fine line you have to walk. And don't get me started on favoritism and those social media cliques. This job is definitely not for those who are introverted or lack assertiveness. To make matters worse, if you actually do a great job, you become a target for rivalry. People will do anything to bring you down, from digging up dirt on you to deliberately withholding important training information. They want to undermine you and break you mentally. When you're just starting out, you'll end up doing all the dirty work that no one else wants to do. And if you excel at it, guess what? You'll be stuck in that role forever, without any real appreciation. The whole promotion process is a mess. It's not transparent, it's sketchy, and it takes forever. It's almost better to pretend to be incompetent to avoid attracting unnecessary competition. The only positive thing I can say is that the union rep did help me with some of the issues I faced, but even that has its limits. If you have a strong support system, like family or friends who work there, and if you have a solid group of friends outside of work, you might just survive. But honestly, I wouldn't recommend -

Great starter job!

I love my time at the NJ Department of Law and public safety. Really learned a lot and it helped me get the job I'm at now. I would recommend the job to anyone starting their career.

This location sucks the life out of you.

Lots of mismanagement, lack of communication and trust among employees and team leaders/ supervisors. Poor training. Poor guidance from managers and no real solution to problems.

My supervisors and director are awesome human beings and allowed me time for my education which I am grateful.

What is the best part of working at the company? The best part of my job at this company is that I am left alone to do my duties. No one is over my shoulders. I am trusted to deliver and that is what I do.What is the most stressful part about working at the company?waiting for promotion. That is like pulling teeth. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? The culture at my department is fast pace, but relaxed at the same time. Everyone seems to be respectful to each other and is willing to help out as needed. We behave as family to each other, not everyone agrees but we work together well to get the job done. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Well, my day starts out with coffee, viewing and replying to emails, responding to voice messages, answering the phone/switch board for one hour. Continue with emails, phone/voice mails, give break for 15 minutes, and go back to check correspondence. I go on my 15. Then I pull files to review for licensure. Schedule anyone who may have interest in taking the next available exam. If it's close time for exam, I would be working on letters to send out to those who are on the list for the next available exam. One week before the exam, I would be preparing the score cards and getting the mobile office ready to bring to the exam site. I sometimes give the lunch breaks and the afternoon breaks (hate that, not crazy about the phone coverage, but I do what's needed without complaining). I continue my duties as started earlier in the day and clean my desk and close off the day.

Dependable, reliable and consistent job .

What is the best part of working at the company?Reliable, consistent work. if you are a dependable employee, you will never have to worry about recession, layoffs or economic downturn effecting your livelihood. From the recession to the coronavirus the State does not disappoint in hard times. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Outdated civil service opportunities can often slow advancement. The negative public image associated with State Workers due to the few additional holidays a public employee is granted outside of the private sector as well as the assumption that state health benefits are provided and not paid for by employees and a porous dental health care program with minimal coverage. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Varies from place to place with the State being such a large employer of so many people and departments it'd be difficult to describe any single place or department. In my experience working for a variety of different units and departments it is what you make of it.What is a typical day like for you at the company?A variety of tasks are to be carried out each day that may change from day to day but for the most part it is 35-40 hour workweek with consistent jobs that need to be carried out from day to day. Most job needs are structured for daily work however depending on department employee may be required to perform outside the normative daily tasks when needed.

Stay Away

Worked here for many years. Job itself isn't that bad. However the total incompetence management is stunning. Do yourself a favor and work in another county.

I looked forward to going to work on most days.

What is the best part of working at the company?Good place to start a career, very good working conditions and good opportunity for advancement. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?I work ed in IT. You had deadlines to meet and had to be available in off hours to correct issues. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? No issues with the work environment as long as you do the assigned work. What is a typical day like for you at the company?I focused on my assignments each day.

Typical day at work

Management needs to improve. Communication between managers and employees is lacking in every department. Favoritism is something that goes around in the departments and those that are favorized feel entitled and do not do as much as the other employees in the department.

Pros

Medical benefits

Cons

No room for growth

Don’t do it.

Pay is excellent work load is absolutely ridiculous. No concern for workers health and wellness and a serious lack of diversity in management and promotion.

Great benifits, but it is hard to move up

Working here is a great opportunity for anyone. You can't beat the benefits of working elsewhere. Every level is very diverse and extremely supportive. You will need a college degree to get ahead. If you don't have a degree it will take years of hard work to get ahead. Getting promotions are not easy either even if you work really hard. The most enjoyable part of the job is the work-life balance.

Pros

2 days remote, benefits

Cons

Promotions
