Absolutely hated every minute I spent working with Stonington Institute. Poor Management, poor cooperation among employees, more interested in job security than actually helping clients. Upper management only looked out for themselves, could care less how the programs were actually operating.

Clients are awesome but stress levels go high to much emphasis is put on how the company looks compared to the quality of care
Residential Aide (Current Employee) –  North Stonington, CTJanuary 15, 2018
Co workers are wonderful but the corporate mumbo jumbo is rediculous. Not enough quality of care is given consideration to for the clients or the lower staff.

House Manager (Former Employee) –  North Stonington, CTJanuary 5, 2018
Working in the human services field can be stressful at times but also can be rewarding. My fellow employees are a pleasure to work with and the clients that we service appreciate our work.

A typical day at work was looking after clients with multiple addictions. I learned to help people with mental health problems as well as multiple addictions. the work place culture was relaxed. the hardest part of my job was having two of my clients die from there from addictions. the most enjoyable part of the job was seeing the joy on the clients face on family visits.
Pros
working with people and helping others in need.
Cons
not being able to help .

The upper management is not realistic in their approach to the employees. The goal of the company is to make money, not look out for the employees or the clients.

Directors are clueless
Residential Counselor (Current Employee) –  Stonington, CTSeptember 5, 2017
Directors of departments may have never worked in field. They will always tell you what you are doing wrong (them being wrong most of the time). not what to do to help...This place is all about money income not clients or staff

Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  Groton, CTJuly 7, 2017
My experience with this company was not good. Unfortunately the management is NOT looking out for the well being of the clients. Money is the most important consideration for this company - the goal here is get the clients in any way you can and keep them there any way you can. Not so they can be helped but so the company can collect the client's insurance money.

They don't pay well either - you would think with all the cash they're raking in you'd get a decent wage. NOT.

Disgusting place, I wouldn't send my worst enemies there. It's sad that there isn't a focus on sobriety when their dorms are full of every drug you could ask for and plenty of alcohol. Violators of the rules barely get a slap on the hand.

A company ran for profit, and to cut corners at every chance. One which has many corrupt aspects and falsified files.

House Manager/OCH Coordinator/Billing Clerk (Former Employee) –  75 Swantown Hill Rd, North Stonington, CT 06359April 15, 2016
This company promotes a feeling of never knowing if one will have a job the next day. Most employees here are also in recovery and the management starting with the CEO treats them as if they are still people who do not care for themselves. It is a revolving door for anyone who goes there seeking help. I cannot compare it to other place since I have only worked at a few. But I do have to say the clients and the other managers are a team that work together. Managements hands are tied due to the diminished integrity of the CEO and those on his level.
Pros
some people are helped
Cons
most are not

Inconsistent, poorly run, and sketchy
MHW/MA/RA (Former Employee) –  North Stonington, CTJanuary 2, 2015
I had a pretty bad experience working for this company. The policies were constantly changing. Enforcing rules and policies were done on an individual basis. THey were only interested in making money regardless of the clients wellbeing. The cameras that are up for "client safety" are actually up to monitor the employees. Overtime was out of the question. Shift preference was out of the question. THe way they talk to you was as if you were a high school drop out. All of the administration was inconsistent in their answers to simple questions. A question was passed from person to person without any real answer being acquired.
Each of the residencies was dirty and housekeeping didn't do anything but vacuum (occasionally) and laundry.
I got the impression that they hoped the clients would relapse so they could get the money from admitting them again.
After speaking with many of the clients they didn't feel like they got anything out of the rehabilitation. They were helpful for those with a alcohol or drug abuse program but not for the other issue that veterans experience like PTSD.
Pros
Learning opportunity when speaking with the clients.
Cons
Everything else.
