Overworked and Underpaid
Mental Health Technician (Former Employee) –  Harlingen, TxNovember 4, 2018
There is always room for advancement as long as you don't expect to be conpensated for it. If you bend over backwards for this company looking for advancement opportunities they will take advantage of you. If you begin to pressure upper management for well deserved compensation they will give you the run around and look for reasons to get you off their back and fire you or make you resign if necessary. Upper management has no regard for staffing and cares little for staff and patient safety. Upper management pushes for addmission of all patients as long as they have insurance. Upper management only focuses on the business side of running the hospital and leaves the rest of staff to figure things out for themselves.
Pros
Great coworkers
Cons
Poor management, No raises, No compensation for increased workloads, hostile work environment

Not the best
Mental Health Technician (Former Employee) –  Garner, NCJanuary 23, 2018
The job was decently alright when certain management was in place, as a year went by the entire management team was laid off and a new team brought in. Once that new team came in the entire facility went down into the dumps. One day’s policy could be tomorrow’s violation. Terrible communication throughout the building and very selective with who the management likes. It felt like high schoolers ran the building. Decent pay but still lower than the nationwide average for the job we did.
Cons
Management, benefits, breaks, pay

Worst Facility I’ve ever worked!
Ex-Employee (Former Employee) –  Garner, NCDecember 10, 2017
This place is the most unorganized, chaotic, depressing, poorly prepared, vile, excuse of a facility that has ever been my displeasure to have worked at! They only care about profit not the children and adults. The children hears verbal abuse from staff as well as they’re outside life. Everyone mumbles daily that they’re only there for the currency . Including administrative. I would never allow my child or grand parent to stay at this facility! The turnover rate is high at this place for reason!! It’s just a temporary, stepping stone job . This is not a career.

Making a difference in the life of a child.
Full Time, Residential Assistant (Current Employee) –  Garner, NCNovember 23, 2017
Each day we follow a routine with the children on the hall you work on. There are times when you are helping a child deal with issues of aggression or depression. You spend time talking to them and encouraging them while setting clear boundaries that are both safe and appropriate. I learned that we have to realize that this children need to learn about appropriate boundaries and behavior. Many of them are manipulative, and they need to learn a better way of getting their needs met. The management can be supportive, and takes the time to train staff to deal with issues as they arise. We are a very close knit group and work to support each other. It can be very stressful and sometimes you feel like you are on your own with the children, but you know you have support in the end. Seeing a child go from an aggressive or isolating person to someone who has learned to accept what they cannot change and learn healthy coping skills to better their life makes this job worth while.
Pros
Good benefits, over time, ability to work in different areas.
Cons
stressful, need to be able to make split decisions, be aware of your own safety.

The worst place to work.
Mental Health Technician (Current Employee) –  Charlotte, NCNovember 15, 2017
Poor management, low pay, no good benefits, lack of professionalism.
First the company changed the work hours within a short notice due to inadequate staffing, then the company did not efficiently pay employees based on their experience.
Pros
Making a difference in kids lives.

Residential Counselor (Current Employee) –  Leland, NCOctober 21, 2017
Turnover ratio was high due to lack of compensation for the job was being done by employees. While the clients were not the issue, the lack of disregard for safety of both clients and employees was less than adequate at times due to the lack of equal number of employees to the ratio of the clients. High stress environment and fast paced. Be prepared for unpredictability. Go to work and do your job and stay out out of both the client and employee drama.

Mental Health Technician (Current Employee) –  Green Bay, WIOctober 13, 2017
The people you work with are amazing and they are the single reason why working here is ok. Otherwise, there are constant staffing issues and the compensation for the work is extremely bad. It is a good starter job but hardly a career.

Mental Health Job with terrible management
Mental Health Technician (Former Employee) –  College Station, TXAugust 30, 2017
Bending over backwards for a company who could care less would be working for them. Schedules are never done right, people get double scheduled for positions within the facility. One day you could be working days the next they will be calling you in to work nights, and don't even think about telling them no. People constantly not showing up for work, they don't give raises even after a year of working there. Plus, corporate loves to come in and fire employees on the spot, so the turn over rate is insanely bad.

I strongly do not recommend, even though I had a strong love for working in the mental health system, no employee deserves the disrespect and neglect this facility gives.

Terrible place. Most awful place I ever worked. Run away nurses
Nurse (Current Employee) –  Garner, NCAugust 24, 2017
Managers, supervisors and leadership team cut throat and do not know what they are doing. No nurses stay. Changed schedules and forced you in 48 hr and 36 hour weekly rotation. Threaten to turn you in to the NCBON because they do not have relief. Attempt to strong arm people. No raises. Lie to you. Nurse manager hasn't been nurse for year and makes multiple med errors.
Pros
None
Cons

High turnover, High Burnout, No administrative support
Administration (Former Employee) –  Leland, NCMay 16, 2017
Do not apply to work here in any capacity. This is a high demand clinical environment and the management culture does not help staff to manage these demands or lighten these demands. The pay and benefits are actually good, but the stress and demands eventually make it not worth it. There is no life-work balance. You do not get holidays off unless you use PTO. If there is a severe weather event in the area, you are required to stay and even spend the night. If evacuation is required, you will be required to evacuate with the residents to another facility in NC. Even therapists are asked to do this and work the halls as direct care staff during these events. They will talk up the bonus, but a lot is geared towards you not earning it. Everything revolves around keeping the census and revenue up at all costs and often contrary to clinical or ethical values. This is a for profit organization. Management is highly unsupportive and even verbally abusive at times. The demands and challenges of this job are not the kids, it is the organizational culture. If you do not believe this review, then ask yourself why there are always job openings posted for this position at SBC.

Awful experience to work for unprofessional management
Residential Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Leland, NCFebruary 8, 2017
This company hires some of the most unprofessional candidates I have ever seen. The lack of support from upper management makes the work place unprofessional, usafe and unpleasant. No chance of any financial compensation for performance above and beyond the norm makes you feel unappreciated in a violent and at times very dangerous work atmosphere.

Poorly Managed and Low Compensation
Mental Health Technician (Current Employee) –  Garner, NCDecember 11, 2016
Awful place to work. Management is unhelpful, some co-workers are unhappy and hostile, and the compensation is insulting. Management is more concerned with micromanaging staff than with making sure children and staff are safe and have what they need. Children are not provided hand soap, so illnesses run rampant. The hospital is hardly therapeutic and technicians play referee more than they do anything else. Always understaffed (expect no help from management when this happens). This hospital is well on its way to being shut down.
Pros
Children are great
Cons
Terrible pay, hostile work environment, poor management, disconnected CEO
