Most locations will interview on the spot. If you are interested in an interview at a location it is best that you go in between 9am and 11am, or between 2pm and 4pm. From 11am to 2pm the hiring manager is generally busy working through the lunch rush.

The environment tends to vary from location to location, depending on volume. Some stores that do a higher volume in sales generally tend to expect employees to move at a much faster pace than at a location that does a lower volume. Every Subway has one thing in common, however. Subway is considered "fast food" due to its expected speed of service. Anyone interested in working for Subway must understand that speed and precision are a requirement, no matter which location you would be working at.

There are shifts that sometimes require an employee to work on their own, depending on the volume of sales, so employees must be prepared for this to occur.

All employees are paid for all work done, whether it is training or regular work. Subways do not necessarily have a "training period". When someone is hired for a position with Subway, they are hired to learn as quickly as possible from day one. There are always things changing with Subway, so training is ongoing. Even employees who have been around for quite a while are still training on the new things that are introduced.

If an employee is doing anything other than sitting on a break, they are to be clocked in, and therefore are being paid for the work they are performing.

There is no obligation to remain to cover a shift. If you are asked and are willing and able to cover the shift then great! If someone is unable to work their shift, it is company policy that they must find their own replacement, or a doctor's note must be provided.

As per the earlier response about the salaried employee being required to cover shifts that is untrue. The company has set policies in place to help avoid overworking salaried employees, if at all possible.

Subway is not formal. We are a casual company, however, we do look at appearance since our employees are required to look professional and hygienic working in the food industry. We are not put off by tattoos, as long as they are tasteful. Piercings are not a deterrent to employment either, but depending on the piercing an employee may have to remove it while at work due to health department restrictions.

Basic math is necessary, since you will be working with formulas and cash register. Also, having good people and communication skills helps! Understanding what it is to work with a team goes a long way as well. We are happy to hire people regardless of experience, since all training is done on the job.

Depending on the position you apply for will determine whether the position is full time or part time. Management staff is generally full time, hours ranging from 32 to 45 hours weekly. All others are generally 12 to 25 hours weekly. However, even a part time employee has the potential to make full time hours if they are available and willing to work at other area locations to cover shifts.
