Unorganized mess
Teacher (Former Employee) –  Lorain, OHAugust 10, 2018
The management at this charter school company doesn’t know what it’s doing. They cut half the staff and only gave us a one week notice that they were doing that for the next year. They also cut two employees in November, right before Thanksgiving. They cut good employees who know what they’re doing and kept ones who don’t. They also have people who have the wrong license or no license teach classes or be Intervention Specialists! Don’t work here if you’re professional because they’re not. They decided to merge two schools into one last year and that created a mountain of extra work for everyone. We were never given any extra compensation for all that extra work. I’m sure that was to save money.
Pros
Some great staff members
Cons
Unprofessional and unorganized management, no lunch break

School that claims they work for the students but create a toxic environment
Teacher (Former Employee) –  Toledo, OHJuly 16, 2018
This school centers on students with A.D.D. A.D.H.D. and Autism with siblings who can also attend. There were many changes at Summit about 5 years ago that alienated teaching staff and working conditions. Inexperienced administrators were promoted to positions that merely agreed with an uninformed corporate office. Money was wasted due to poor planning and eliminated experienced teachers from their jobs. Many solid experienced people began to disappear by choice or "restructuring." The 3 principals in Toledo feared losing their jobs so made cuts to their own benefit. Not for the sake of the students. The students were more appreciative of their teachers than admin. At one point, my job consisted of a plan period in the a.m. and 8 straight classes in a row with no time for necessity breaks of any kind. Some teachers were fabulous to work with. Other teachers, due to lack of management caused a toxic environment and were allowed to disrespect teachers right to their students.

Unprofessional and terrible leadership
administration (Former Employee) –  Middletown, OhioMarch 11, 2018
Over work their teachers with five preps and no guidance. More of a show for management. The school states that they:
*Mission driven
*Egos & baggage checked at the door
*Willingness to help others
*Honest feedback
*Expected | Accepted | Not Judged
*Value others as experts in their field
*No personal agendas
*Fair and consistent practices
*Challenge ideas, not people
*Open minded
*Be respectful
*Keep your word
*Hold yourself and each other accountable

ALL LIES AND FOR SHOW!! Twenty five years of education experience and would not recommend to a starving person. Call me, I'll feed you!

Very rewarding but corrupt leadership.
Support Staff (Former Employee) –  Lorain County, OHDecember 8, 2017
The student population is challenging but very rewarding. Staff is typically very passionate, though stressed and overworked. Unfortunately, compensation is way below industry standards. Teacher's start at $29,000/yr and intervention specialists start at $31,000. There is no "step program" to advance salaries and career. School management is located in Akron and they are unresponsive to school staff concerns. Management employees make much more than school staff. The last time I checked, the CEO made well over $200,000. In fall 2017, they laid off a ton of employees without notice right before the holidays which makes it seem as if they would be an unstable career choice.
Pros
Rewarding to work with at risk population
Cons
No administrative support, poor compensation, no advancement opportunities, corrupt management, lay off potential

I really enjoyed working with the client population. However there was very little support from the supervisor. It appeared that a lot of the staff was cut-throat and was not very supportive of me in my previous position.
Pros
was on a school year calander
Cons

Instructional Aide/Music Teacher (Former Employee) –  Akron, OHAugust 5, 2017
Worked with a lot of students with different disabilities from all different walks of life. Pay is terrible...you easily make 15K more at a public school starting out but a good way to get experience. Long days with even longer staff meetings are the norm.
