PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR (Former Employee) –  Haverhill, OHJune 9, 2018
The company overall is a great place to work, as with any company there are issues. At the location I was out there was the buddy system (between managers). No matter how good you were at your job, how hard you pushed, and what you gave the company, there were a few key people in upper management that would rather sink a good manager who is a good for the company than they would see them succeed. At the operations manager, and plant manager level this is spear headed, and has drastically harmed the company.

Product Technician (Current Employee) –  Middletown, OHMarch 4, 2018
Good place to work with competitive pay and benefits, with a lot of opportunities to advance your career. The work place is fairly relaxed, and the hardest part of the jobs can be the heat in the summer months. The most enjoyable aspect of the job is the different people you get to work with. However the management style here can at times leave you dissatisfied with the way they handle common issues and lack of knowledge of their employees.
Pros
relaxed culture, good benefits, occasional free lunch.
Cons
Management style

This is a place that will allow you a very up close and personal view of life in the fast lane. Just be sure your prepared to handle it. I find it addictive personally. Awesome folks and I grew by leaps and bounds. Loved it just wished they hadn't moved away to Chicago.

Poor Management
Purchasing Manager Coordinator / Warehouse Manger (Former Employee) –  Granite City, ILFebruary 12, 2018
Unless you have a degree in engineering your opinions do not matter. If you like the idea of joining a company and then not having a job within a year or less, this is the place for you. Industry and outlook very bad. Office is political, with some critical divisions (accounting, finance, legal) having an especially poor work environment and high turnover. Senior mgmt. team is grossly overpaid and has made a number of missteps.
Pros
Good poeple

Poor management

MACHINE OPERATOR (Former Employee) –  Franklin Furnace, OHSeptember 14, 2017
The pay is really good for the area, however, the hours worked are too much. They push more for quantity than for quality. Most of the workers are easy to get along with.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Over worked

Operations Manager (Current Employee) –  Haverhill, OHAugust 21, 2017
Good place to work, ran out of room to advance. Company is in an industry on the decline. Very unfortunate as the company culture, benefits, and compensation were the best I had ever seen.

Productive Place to Work
Mechanical Integrity and Inspection Manager (Former Employee) –  OhioMay 30, 2017
Defined objectives and a supportive team environment help to make this place a great place to work. The work load is heavy so be ready to work long hours. The compensation and benefits are very good. The senior management, CEO and VP's are clueless concerning the manufacturing and operations of coke plants. Long term strategy is an issue for this company. Look for an investment company to acquire this company and make the needed changes at the top level.

Mechanical Maintenance Intern (Current Employee) –  Middletown, OHMarch 7, 2017
I had the chance to learn a lot at SunCoke. I had a great group of people to work with in the maintenance department. The thing I did not like was the constant coke dust in the air.

Shift Supervisor/Area Owner (Current Employee) –  East Chicago, INNovember 28, 2016
Lined up the daily crew on the events that happened in the last 24 hours.
I learned a lot about the making of coke for steel making.
Most of the coworkers were easy to work with.
The hardest part of the day was trying to get everything done that had to be done in one day. Had to use very good time management.

Director (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILFebruary 2, 2016
Lot of good smart people. Company needs to build operational discipline and quality department. Lack of both of these results in lots of firefighting in plants. Not a good company culture. Management not very observant of the real contributors and do not hold the right people accountable.

Bad company culture
