Easy to find jobs & flexible work schedule
Substitute Teacher (Current Employee) - Fremont, CA - August 25, 2023
Featured review
Swing Education selected this as a representative reviewI've been able to find jobs every day that I've wanted to work (full-time weekdays). Pay depends on school but can be pretty good. Work environments at the schools have been great so far. Some jobs are more involved than others depending on the age of the class. There are both long-term and single day/several day assignments. I've met several school employees who used to work for Swing and got their current job that way. Only con is that some schools end earlier than stated or give less hours so you don't get paid like a full workday, but once you know which ones aren't as worth it you could just choose not to work those.

Underpaid / Work for a district!
Visiting Teacher (Former Employee) - San Diego, CA - October 24, 2023
Subs make about $15 less per hour working for this company instead of working directly for a school district. Takes at least 48hrs to hear back from anyone at the company if any issues arise at a sight or with pay. I would stay clear! SD Unified pays subs twice a month!

Do not waste your time if you don't have the COVID vaccine
Substitute Teacher K-12 (Current Employee) - Illinois - October 17, 2023
Swing Education needs to take a lesson in transparency. You have to be vaccinated. They don't respond fast; it takes support 2 days or more to get back to you. I wish they were upfront and honest about the process of becoming a substitute teacher. It's 2023 and their policy around COVID vaccine is outdated and needs to be looked at. I feel as though I have been lied to. I want to use this platform and every review platform to make sure that people who are looking for work know what they are getting into. I started this process with them over a month ago and it is not looking good. I do not recommend this program unless you have time to waste and you have the covid vaccine.
Pros
It could have been great, but after getting set up for about a month, I learn about covid vaccine requirement.
Cons
you have to have the covid vaccine, and a billion steps to get started

Okay
Substitute Teacher (Current Employee) - Richmond, CA - October 12, 2023
Okay if you have multiple streams of income and don’t rely on swing solely. Some of the pay rates will rob you while others are livable. Don’t settle for anything less than $30 an hour.

There's hardly any jobs, and they get taken in two seconds.
Substitute Teacher (Current Employee) - Varies - September 30, 2023
I mean this is a typical sub position. It isn't a reflection of the company so much, but you basically feel you are on your own after being accepted. I'm okay with that, but as far as the culture... I mean there isn't one. My complaint for this specific company is that there are very few jobs listed, and in 10 seconds they get taken..I mean literally. I was looking at a job that just popped up, the only one, and before I could finish reading the full summary, it was gone. There are no benefits as far as health insurance or anything. It's an easy and rewarding job if you can find listings. My suggestion is to go through an actual school district.
Cons
Not much work

Flexibility however sometimes unorganized
Substitute Teacher (Former Employee) - La Mesa, CA - September 30, 2023
I liked the flexibility however sometimes it was unorganized where two subs were hired for the same assignment. Or I select an assignment I am comfortable with yet end up in a totally different assignment (5th grade but ended up having to take on Kinder).

Online sub teacher app
Substitute Teacher K-12 (Current Employee) - San Francisco Bay Area, CA - September 20, 2023
You can accept positions from around the Bay Area. Some schools are great, others not so much. You'll have very little interaction with SWING. They pay hourly not by the day.

Wasn’t the Best Option for Sub Work
Substitute Teacher (Former Employee) - Riverside County, CA - September 5, 2023
I signed up for Swing excited to get some sub work and put in the time to do the orientation and a Live Scan. Unfortunately, Swing doesn’t have many job sites in my county and I would have to drive 60 minutes to pick up a temp sub job. I wish they were more transparent about this before I put in the time and money to get started, and I recommend that you look into your county and job availability because you may end up in my situation which really isn’t great.
Pros
paid orientation
Cons
job availability in certain countries, far travel

September 12, 2023Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to review Swing. We're saddened to hear your experience didn't live up to our standards. Requests are posted by schools when in need of teacher coverage, unfortunately it sounds like when you checked your dashboard you didn't see any requests. We expect the volume of requests from schools to increase as we get farther into the school year. If you're comfortable discussing your situation with us, please reach out at support@swingeducation.com and we'd be more than happy to assist you.

Good Pay but No Available Jobs
Substitute Teacher (Current Employee) - Houston, TX - August 29, 2023
Upon beginning to work for Swing I thought that things would be different. The pay is decent however, there are never any available jobs. If you are looking to have consistent money coming in, SWING is not the company for you. This is not a situation where I am missing out on openings, its just rare that any are posted.

I enjoyed working in different schools
Substitute Teacher (Current Employee) - Oakland, CA - August 11, 2023
1) Working days and time was good 2) I learned to deal with different types of students having different personalities 3) Good management timing 4) Working culture depends on schools but not directly with Swing Edu 5) The hardest part of the job is that, sometimes some school offer no schedule which makes confusion at class what to do. 6) Talking with students, sharing experiences, etc are the most enjoyable part of the teaching job.
Pros
Most of the time online classes and fixed curriculum, weekly payment
Cons
No any facilities such as paid vacation leave, healthcare and other facilities

Pay on time. Limited opportunities at times. No bonus this year.
Substitute Teacher (Current Employee) - New York, NY - August 9, 2023
As the headline states. I assume they have to deal with a lot of competitors. The do not pay the highest - nor do most. They had a bonus last year, but not this year. With the money that they make off subs, that is not very caring - and they didn't say anything - you just find that there is no bonus.

Flexible and Great Pay!
Substitute Teacher (Former Employee) - San Diego, CA - July 28, 2023
The sub assignments varied in subject and grade level, so it was great choose which assignment fit best for me. The pay is competitive and pays every Friday!

I recommend take another job instead working as a substitute teacher.
Math Teacher (Current Employee) - Los Angeles, CA - July 24, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? I think this is big a company. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Low rate of salary and school was too far from my home. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Working as a substitute teacher is not profitable to my future then I stopped working at Swing Education. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Depends on which school I go or what grade I take. This substitute teacher jobs are unpredictable one.

you are your own boss
Substitute Teacher (Current Employee) - California - July 20, 2023
I love it because you make your own schedule. You select when and I where you want to work. They also provide gift cards at the end of the school year.

Good job but bad management
Substitute Teacher K-12 (Current Employee) - Bellflower, CA - June 7, 2023
Its very hard to get in contact with managers/ HR as there is no phone number just an email. When they contact you its very condescending. Most times they dont even help. Partner schools are great.

Flexible, Part Time, Paid Well Enough
Substitute Teacher (Current Employee) - Bay Area - May 18, 2023
Being able to make my own schedule and see how much I was expected to be paid was helpful. Wish there was more training about being in the classroom, but overall a good company to work for.
