Nice job security but unfulfilling...

I worked for TSA for almost 5 years and 6 years as a contractor and loved every minute of it. I've made a lot of friend and lost some friends as well. I will forever be grateful for all the memories.

Over worked and underpaid.

The most overworked and underpaid job that I ever had. While the benefits are good it’s simply not worth the pay for the unusual hours and demanding work that is required.

It can be very busy or very slow, not a medium. Passengers can be difficult a times. Work can be very repetitive and boring.

Very inflexible. some coworkers are rude and not friendly. Management only care about numbers. Supervisors rit or missed. Salary is a bit low, not following the inflation. Mandatory covid19 vacine. Some people they hire are uneducated and hard to get along.

Pros

It can be easy work at times.

Cons

Short breaks, you go to breaksroom and some of the coworkers can be annoying.

Sense of Pride and duty for my country

I took the job to serve my country in a meaningful way by providing security to the public for their flights. The job itself I love but the management is not good and promotions are not done on merit. They are done on politics, the old who you know scenario and who you kiss up to. The pay, while not terrible is not comparable to the work you are doing.

Pros

Serving my country

Cons

Pay, work schedule

Inadequately prepared for role as TSO which adds to the stress of the job

I was excited about working at TSA but the reality is that the hours are terrible & it is a very stressful job. We are tested constantly and we are not given adequate training to be successful in the position. Every new TSO I have spoken to is here temporarily and using the job as a stepping stone to future federal employment in another agency.

Pros

Good Benefits

Cons

Stressful with zero life work balance

Entry level government job

Use it as a stepping stone, career advancement and pay pretty much stalls after a year, be prepared to take drinks away from people and pat down hundreds of groins per shift.

It can be good if you know what you want joining this agency

For what you are responsible for and what the supervisors hold you accountable for the pay is not even close to enough to make it worth it but this is MY opinion. This is a great job if you are looking to boost your resume as long as you have a good standing with most people here. I promise you you won't get along with everyone here but I guess that's any work place. Some shift leads will be out to get you even for asking simple questions for help regarding the job. Benefits however are pretty good take advantage of them. Scheduling can be great if you are in school so this is a nice part time job. Most people here are genuine so just make the most of the job and do your best.

Pros

Benefits, breaks, coworkers, and scheduling

Cons

Pay and coworkers

Good place to work

There are different positions you can apply for with TSA. A screening officer doesn't start stuck being a screening officer. There are different positions you can apply for in admin, such as human resources or an executive assistant. There's also opportunities to become an inspector or a trainer. They have both part-time and full-time positions. They offer full benefits for part-time officers as well.

Low pay, decent benefits

Management is terrible, depending on the checkpoint. Some of people that work there are cool. Workers don’t get treated the best, it’s all about getting the passengers through. Barely give raises and we’re always short staffed.

Cons

Low pay for the work

Terrible management

The management does not care for employees. Family leave was not honored even when it was used appropriately and sick days were available. Supervisors are promoted based on time worked and not because of leadership abilities.

Pros

Good healthcare

Cons

Management.

Good starting job /Low pay

Not much room to promote. When low-staffed you could work 30 days straight (with overtime) with no days off. Very low pay for a federal job, although it is a good way to start working for the government.

Pros

Health benefits

Cons

Understaffed

Easy concept work and decent pay

Extremely high levels of stress inflicted by management. You’re likely to be fired or quit within the first 2 years. Extremely high turnover rates. Extremely low morale. I promise you will be wasting your time if you even apply.

Pros

Health benefits

Cons

Literally everything else

Simple job made difficult due to the 100 tier management team.

Inflexible hours. Super high turn over due to management. Alot of depression and suffocation comes with this job. If you want to work somewhere with too many Chiefs and not enough Indians this is the place for you.

Pros

You can get out the house and get paid bi weekly

Cons

Everything else. Wages are low. Government job no GS scale, always furloughed and overworked.

Good starter job

It's good for someone trying to get their foot in the federal door. It's also good for someone who wants full benefits for working part time. The pay starts off okay but is not rewarding in the long run. It's a simple job, but the public doesn't like you. There are chances to move up, but it's more of a stepping stone to other agencies. If you like your immediate coworkers, then the daily work will be bearable. Management varies widely from airport to airport.

Toxic

Managers play favorites, so if their "favorite" did something bad, they would only receive a slap on the wrist. Whereas anyone one else would be written up and berated. Co-workers would form cliques. Treated like dirt by co-workers, managers, and passengers. This was honestly the worst job I ever had, and I dreaded coming to work every single day.

Pros

PTO and sick leave accrues quickly.

Cons

Probation is 2 years long.

Its a great job if you like to be up in peoples business.

Its very basic, very follow the rules to a T kind of job. But employees started losing focus of the mission and the energy turned very negative. The benefits are great but with deductions and all that its still not enough pay to be considered emergency response personell. They want you to give your body and soul to the place and expect nothing back.

Pros

Extended list of benefits

Cons

You are expected to give your life and soul

Coworkers/management

People you work with (majority) are awesome. Friendships are easily gained and relationships with officers are great. Management is a “who you know” system. All the ones in power are who gets along with each other and friends. Everything that happens, is always on the officers. Management has no care about the working people. Working there 5 years, management will pick tiny things out and make big deals. They will literally hold spots for the people they want. There is no fair promotion. Working hard, extra hours; doesn’t pay off here. It’s a typical federal agency that has a big friend system going on. They have favorites, and if you aren’t one of them, no chance to promote. If you speak against it, management will ride you and try to get you out.

Pros

Federal benefits/ coworkers

Cons

Management and political
