Beware of Terracon
Middle Manager (Current Employee) –  St. Louis, MOApril 4, 2018
Many people are hired into salaried positions but are laid off as soon as project work becomes low. This can ruin lives. They hire to fill Short term needs. Operate on a period by period basis with no long term commitment and claim this is how it is everywhere. Cannot trust managers as they lie and manipulate the system. Management succomes to fits of rage when when mistakes are made or any company policies are not followed to the letter. They ambush employees with unannounced write ups. Very hostile sydistical environment.

Job responsibilities are enjoyable at times. Pay is way below average for type of responsibility.
Engineering Technician (Current Employee) –  North CarolinaMarch 29, 2018
Very slow pay raises. Night work, no extra compensation. Slow when weather is bad. Seems like management and salaried employees have no worries. Financial struggle hourly employees. Benefits not bad.

Terracon Not Recommended
Geotechnical Engineer (Former Employee) –  Al QaṣīmFebruary 10, 2018
At Terracon you are a number. After Terracon bought Midwest out, noone was happy with the new culture. Clients left when Terracon took over. Could be better now, as this is how most of the nation is going anyway. Before Terracon it was a great place to work.

Field Geologist (Former Employee) –  College Station, TXJanuary 30, 2018
For a recent graduate Terracon is a great place to gain experience. But, if you are looking to make any financial advancements in your life Terracon is not the place to be. They will work you like a slave and pay you like a sharecropper.
Pros
Good People
Cons
Low pay

Engineering Technician (Current Employee) –  Longmont, COJanuary 16, 2018
I got very lucky to have landed this job as an 18 year old student, but I'm very glad I did. Got to work pretty independently, very fun and happy workplace, and got paid very well.

Great job but not enough compensation
Construction Materials Technician Engineer (CMTE) (Current Employee) –  Greenville, SCJanuary 4, 2018
The reason I left the company is because of personal reasons but one thing that motivated it was the lack of compensation. So many different tasks that you would do through out the day and not get paid for your worth to the company. Lack of proper training is a big thing too. I do recommend the company to properly train future employees and give them a hire on raise when permanently hired.
Pros
Paid Travel Time, Pto, Benefits
Cons
Not enough compensation, hours arent guaranteed. Work hours varies nothing is set in stone.

Great company culture with excellent benefits, but not very rewarding work as an Engineering Technician
Engineering Technician II (Current Employee) –  Baton Rouge, LAJanuary 2, 2018
Terracon is a great company to work for, but the working hours for an Engineering Technician are long and unpredictable. It is hard to find a healthy work-life balance, and the compensation is hardly enough - unless you get tons of overtime hours. However, I really enjoy all of my coworkers and supervisors, and everyone makes a great effort to create a fun, friendly, professional, and collaborative working environment.
Pros
Great company culture
Cons
Low pay

Terracon is fair to its employees and offers chances to make more money with certifications but for the most part there is not a lot of room for career advancement.

Environmental Specialist (Former Employee) –  FloridaDecember 13, 2017
Management was never involved, until hire up would start asking questions. Worked night, day and evening shifts. Sometimes worked an al night shift and they would sometimes want you to attend a morning meeting.
Pros
Good benefits
Cons
Everything else, especifically management. Never around.

Construction Material Technician (CMT) (Former Employee) –  Tempe, AzDecember 12, 2017
It has been a long time since I worked there. But I remember 3 weeks pto, okay pay. But asked to work a lot of off hours, sometimes early morning, other times middle of the night. If you can handle a volatile schedule, it's a good job, but should probably pay more for having to put up with that.
Pros
Solid company

Hours

The Potential is There
Marketing Specialist (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WAOctober 22, 2017
This could truly be great company with some shifts in culture. They have grown to large too fast. There are entirely too many layers of management. The firm should re-think its management structure. It would cut down on a lot of unnecessary overhead.

Lots of room for advancement. A company that will support any and all opportunities that their employees want to take. They offer help with most higher education, and pay accordingly.

As long as you do your job and is needed when the job requires, the position should go well. Hours may be difficult but will get used to it after working a while.
