Interesting workplace, lots to learn

Indeed Featured review

There are a ton of opportunities for learning here. Pay is good, vacation is good, and 401(k) is great. They’ve been very adaptive and safe during COVID. Overall a good place to work.

Lackluster

Great client groups, incompetent leadership and upper management. Not much room for growth. Managers don’t know how to manage. Work is not spread out evenly.

Place to retire

Company pander to the young crowd who lack the knowledge to do thing in gener. Career path is stagnant for those without the Top clearances. Pay is generally is level lower than the industry. Benefits and vacations and over time makes up for the pay for those willing to work 10-15 hour per week.

Laidback environment that values employees

Employees were valued and given freedom and trust to perform independently. Management tries to provide interesting projects. Only downside is lower pay due to being an FFRDC (non-profit).

Great Company Culture

The leadership team has changed quite a bit over the last decade. Many were apprehensive, but it came with great changes. In my personal experience, management is very supportive, they provide opportunity for growth, and provide a very friendly and comfortable culture. The company as a whole also encourages growth and welcome you to explore other opportunities within the company along with competitive salaries.

Important work and innovation

Aerospace is the one organization that spans the entire space enterprise. Super important work, very creative, smartest people ever. It’s a nonprofit and chartered to be objective and technically superb.

Productive and non-stop for the most part.

What is the best part of working at the company?Pretty good benefits...and some really nice people there. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Unresolved Management issues no matter if Human Resources was informed or not. There are alot of unhappy people there due to unresolved/unaddressed employee issues. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Pretty comfortable work environment especially since most people were able to work remotely or work a hybrid schedule due to the covid-19 pandemic. What is a typical day like for you at the company? The work usually greeted me as soon as I logged onto the computer, but most times it was easy to manage daily.

The different positions

The hours were pretty reasonable, if you have young children having coverage in the mornings would work best to make the early shift. Overnight is a possibility depending on which position you go for.A typical day was alright, the position I was in was with one other person. Who was basically in charge of showing me the ropes. Which i found to be completely unorganized. Not only wasn't the position "stamping'. But involved other duties that i wasn't aware of. I feel the whole training process was ridiculous. I made it work as much as i could. I learned a few new skills. But I ultimately hated it. It wasn't a "shipping" job as i have worked in the past, nor was it soley stamping. The way the expect things with someone to train who them themselves was just getting the hang of learning EVERYTHING i felt was alot. You literally do everything in that position. Which I am all for because I absolutely hate standing around. But because of certain moments and not knowing everything as I should or being stopped to wait, held moments I felt I was standing around.

Pros

Neat new things to learn

Cons

Management and training

Perfect for Beginners or Semi-Retirees

Beautiful place to start off career or semi-retire. Many PhDs who were once professors or wanted to be, from Ivy Leagues, MIT, CalTech, and are mostly willing to take time to teach anything they know if you are willing. Excellent and flexible education programs to help pay, along with internal Aerospace University classes for free learning.Aerospace Focuses heavily on Simulation and Analysis, along with overseeing government contracts. Anything for more hands-on or field-work must usually be searched and sought-out for under research programs thought up by coworkers. The flip side of having so many semi-professor PhDs working here is there aren’t many people in 20s and early 30s who stay longer than a few years.Non-profit and FFRDC means slight below-average base-pay for first 2-5 years of career, similar to working for the city, but more than working for NAVSEA. Guaranteed pay raise every year, though may only be 1-3% for most. Two or more years with ~5% raise usually means an additional promotion along with a compounding salary increase within a few months. At least for the driven, Aerospace seems to cluster bonuses in the form of Awards. If you work here with descent proficiency, there is excellent job security and friendly coworkers. Management is flat, so I often interact with boss’s boss, and even their boss. Can easily become self-reliant, set own milestones and plans. Happy to have worked here, and will certainly recommend this place.

What is the best part of working at the company?Going home in the evening. Favorites are treated great. Old boy network is strong. God bless the candidate that gets in. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Yearly budget cuts and having to justify your job yearly. Twenty yrs down the drain. Shouldve left after 10. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Good old boy network drama. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Rather not answer.

Learned a lot and management was nice but lacked direction

I only interned, but my manager was extremely helpful. I learned a lot just by doing things out of my comfort zone. It could be intimidating at times, and sometimes it felt like my work wasn't too useful so I didn't know what the end goal was.

Older employees with good experience

Right now the company is hiring young talent, the average age is like 50, so TAC is really looking to expand innovation. Mentorship is great, and everybody is really nice. Out of a lot of the aero/defense companies, this place stands out since it's almost like a branch of the federal government/airforce.

Stress-free culture with focus on people and professional development working on solving impactful and worthwhile problems

As with any big company, your team and management will matter most. That said, there is a lot of cross-collaboration across research and subject domain groups, and overwhelmingly the culture is full of helpful, friendly engineers/scientists who are very skilled in their areas. The program office side of things can be a bit political, but that's not the case on the engineering side. The company does require that you be self-motivated and stand out in someway and have significant impacts to see career growth, otherwise it's very easy to stagnant, a lot like in academia.

Engineers Pretending To Be Medical Professionals

This company is mainly comprised by engineers and they believe they can make medical decisions without having a medical license or experience. They claim they want Registered Nurses but when they hire us, they won't allow us to practice our profession and just micromanage us. They don't need nurses, they need zombies who will simply do exactly what they say!

Good benefits, smart people

People have spent most of the careers at the company, so there is a lot of knowledge. There is a friendly atmosphere and interesting science being performed in the labs.

Pros

Great flexibility, if you're group allows for it. Great people.

Cons

FFRDC company, things have to be done a certain way so it takes a lot of time to accomplish tasks. Old school, boys club in some departments.
