They should try not competing with their suboordinates, and try coaching them to be great instead so that they could move up. They should also hire from within more instead of hiring new people for positions their long standing employees could have moved up into. Depending on the store, everything was so competitive that management was trying to be top salesperson as well as the associates and everyone wanted to prove themselves. It becomes toxic.

I was very mislead as to my work schedule. Some days I worked from open to close the only person in the store. Anywhere from 9 to 12 hrs no break.

Either close all the stores at once and become online only or support the stores by creating a non competitive environment. Also, do not make the store workers try and stop theft by customers who are actually stealing product from the store. That is dangerous for the employee.
