The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Volunteer Primary teacher (Current Employee) - Great Falls, VA - September 11, 2018
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWere as most religious sects pay those that work for them. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints asks for members of the congregation to volunteer. I have been working with the children 18 months-11 years old for over a decade and have loved every minute of it.
Pros
Fulfilling, satisfying, helps others grow
Cons
no pay

What is the best part of working at the company? Gaining of the Gospel knowledge. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Drawing closer to my Heavenly Father by developing the passion and mind to help mankind (voluntarily) . What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It's very - very impressive with well organized system that I can't afford to leave once I'm alive. It's my passion and goal to work for the Lord (serve my fellow beings) with the best of my ability till death. What is a typical day like for you at the company? They pay good for the tasks you need to do. They train you in everything. Everybody is very respectful and help you in everything. You don’t need to be afraid to do mistakes. They always do activities and things to make us feel happier at work.

Great place to work
Welfare and Self-Reliance Manager (Current Employee) - San Francisco, CA - September 1, 2023
I love the team I work with. I always feel supported, and the work I do is meaningful. It's a church, so things move slower than in a finance company. But feedback is taken and appreciated, and it is acted upon. There are opportunities to grow, but mostly if you are willing to move back to Utah where there are more jobs than in each state.

One of the best places an active Church member can work
Solutions Manager 2 (Current Employee) - Salt Lake City, UT - August 30, 2023
This is the place where we literally practice what we preach. On Mondays, you are expected to be out of the building no later than 5 PM for Family Home Evening. We begin meetings with prayer and regularly participate in devotionals. The leadership pattern is called "Lead Like the Savior Would Lead". This is a work environment where everyone works hard while at work and leaves work at work. We maintain an excellent work/life balance which includes time for Church service.
Pros
Excellent Benefits, work/life balance, strong alignment between day to day work and the mission of the Church.
Cons
No stock options or annual bonus

Supportive culture with excellent benefits
Senior Internal Auditor (Current Employee) - Salt Lake City, UT - August 28, 2023
I came here from public accounting. I was amazed at the competitive salary (my salary base decrease was more than made up for by retirement benefits- they have a 12 % match!) and great work-life balance. Every person I meet is kind, supportive, and willing to help.
Pros
Reduced lunch, great discounts, AMAZING health insurance
Cons
Slower career progression

Not a 'Job' per say, but the greatest work.
Full-time Volunteer Missionary (Former Employee) - Newport Beach, CA - August 25, 2023
The Church never pays individuals for 'ecclesiastical' positions. Feel free to look into their management positions if you need pay, but if you just want to make the world a better place, be a missionary. They will help fund you, but it's not a paid position.

Challenging
Custodial Supervisor (Former Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - August 12, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The retirement benefits and the nature of the work. The people you work with. It’s a lot different from the private sector. I use to pray with my staff before working What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Deadlines, and people messing up your work. Almost a thankless job; but you’re paid back in satisfaction of doing a good job and a boatload of blessings What is the work environment and culture like at the company? A worked in a Temple. Quiet revenant environment. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Pray, plan, and execute. Be ready for anything. I was the Custodial Supervisor and was responsible for 5 PT employees and 4 floors of the Temple, 2 stories of parking lots, mechanical rooms, and the Arrival Center

Rewarding but stressful
Facilities manager (Former Employee) - Michigan - July 10, 2023
Overall, the position was very rewarding in that a person performing the necessary tasks can enjoy the outcomes. About 2/3 of the people I worked with were wonderful and committed to the organization. Sadly, about 1/3 were not committed to the organization, only committed to themselves, and seem to be psychic vampires to those around them. The pay and benefits or adequate.

Keep your eyes wide open?
HQF Gardener (Former Employee) - Salt Lake City, UT - June 28, 2023
After twenty-something years I returned to school to take a stab at getting my degree in horticulture / landscaping. I came with drive, enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and a desire to serve. What I encountered was a lot of pretense of knowledge and righteousness. You can see in the landscaping the lackadaisical attitude that "all is well." Trees were left to die, obsolete plant varities had poor disease resistance, some corners that "nobody can see," became over-grown, horticulture was disregarded for hearsay or trial and error. Others, by their attitude, demonstrated they were afraid that work would dry up. So there was a lot of neglect. I suppose that makes sense when you're taught that the only thing that is holy is tradition, sentiment, and those with titles / authority. There is also a lot of lying, gas-lighting, collaborating, gossip and slander. Mostly by leadership though. (Disclaimer- I had opportunities to meet actual leaders of the Church. They were great and this does not reflect on the Church actual. I am no less devoted to the Church of Jesus Christ. There are also some excellent leaders interspersed within Headquarters.)
Pros
Quality, hard-working temps and service missionaries.
Cons
Slow sick days accrual, promotions are by senority / sociality, and HR is completely worthless unless it's for correcting a time entry, they didn't even know what gas-lighting means.

The benefits are wonderful and the compensation meets market competitors. I love my job so much, and the environment makes everyone feel welcome.
Pros
