Clinical Care Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Millersville, MDJune 19, 2019
The Coordinating Center for Home and Community Care provides resources and systems to assist with optimal health, community inclusion, and independence for clients with chronic and expensive medical conditions. The workplace culture includes fun, learning, and service to the wider community. 4 hours are given per year to voluntarily engage in community service. Some positions are 100% telecommute.

Flexible place to work. You are a home based employee as a Supports Planner. Billing requirements can be challenging. Overall a good place to work. I would recommend if financials is not your focus.

Good for a beginner
SC (Former Employee) –  Millersville, MDNovember 18, 2017
The ACS program provides plenty of opportunity to work at home, but billable hours mean the world to this position. In recent years, many more clients with significant mental health diagnosis have transitioned into the program, but the program has no clinical component. Many team managers have little to no clinical experience and micro manage paper work solely. The State really needs to evaluate the lack of clinical experience required for the ACS program, but for the entry level professional, this program gets your feet wet.
Pros
work at home
Cons
low salary; little room for advancement

Growth has ruined TCC
Care Manager (Former Employee) –  Millersville, MDDecember 17, 2016
I worked as a Care Manager at TCC for over 7 years. Management was very cliquey....if you weren't there from the beginning, you best keep your mouth shut. And don't dare express opinions contrary to those of the "politically correct" management. You would be ridiculed. There were advancement opportunities, but once you reached a higher level position there was little support and training from upper management but high expectations placed upon you in your new role. Morale definitely suffered. TCC was growing when I worked there and apparently has continued to do so, to the detriment of the core values upon which it was founded. The travel, not so great...lots of mileage on your vehicle. They also seemed to hire people who were not the right fit for their particular job when they needed bodies to fill positions, only to "let them go" later on. It's a shame because TCC was highly regarded in the DD community and it seems that unbridled growth has been detrimental. On the positive side, there were a number of very nice dedicated people working there, and they tried to support each other when possible.
Pros
Holiday time off; telecommuting
Cons
Lots of stress; confusion regarding job expectations; statewide travel

Not the great place that it used to be!!!
Support Planner (Current Employee) –  Millersville, MDSeptember 17, 2016
If you are a MSW or on that track, stay away from the Adult Community Services Program. More so, if you've a graduate degree stay away because your expertise and experience will outweigh the team managers. The ACS program is a program that addresses the needs of complex medically needy adults and children, but you will not receive much support from the director and team managers to address your own self preservation and need to feel like a valued employee. More so, you will receive no clinical feedback to deal with clients whose primary diagnosis is mental illness because the team managers don't have the expertise to assist you. While you are allowed to telework, the main focus of the ACS program is Billing, Billing, and more Billing. You don't get credit for travel time and or required meeting times and will need to make up the time by working long, tireless hours that exceed an 8 hour day but can only bill for 7 hours a day. Makes no sense!!! The work place used to have a sense of team but not anymore, and no one in management seems to care. This is an agency that sets a high standard for clients but not for certain programs and especially not for Support Planners.
Pros
allowed to work at home
Cons
team managers with little education or expertise; no team connections; low morale

Good place for young, motivated individuals interested in human services.
Support Planner (Current Employee) –  Millersville, MDApril 2, 2016
This place has gone through a lot of changes in the last few years. The job requirements changes so frequently that the lack of consistency regarding contractual requirements creates job confusion and frustration. It's almost impossible to grow and advance at this place of employment. Those who work frequently in the office seem to have an advantage over those who work at home consistently because they are the ones who seem to move into management quicker. The job offers little emotional support to case managers who may experience case load stressors and balance. Management especially the ACS manager presents at though they are so supportive but the reality is that you are extremely disposable. Employees often receive late emails about people who were "let go" or quit in prior weeks without even allowing co-workers to even say "bye." Overall, this is a paycheck and job experience if you need it but not very rewarding. They are so concerned about "billing" there is no room for team building or "down time" to get to know our co-workers.
Pros
teleworking opportunities and flexibility
Cons
no support from management; little personal growth

Support Planner (Current Employee) –  Millersville, MDSeptember 23, 2015
Great for those who want to work independently from home. Many changes made frequently with few answers to common questions. Always playing the "waiting game" for answers and work ends up on hold. Inconsistency among supervisors. Great experience for case management and educates you on medical terminology, equipment, and insurance.
Pros
Work from home, clients assigned in your area
Cons
Inconsistency with information and process, micromangment, little co-worker interaction

This Organization has lost it's Focus!!!
Case manager (Former Employee) –  Millersville, Md.April 10, 2015
If you are not part of the "Old Ladies Club" you will have a difficult time advancing. The company used to focus on advocacy and the best interests of their clients, now since they have been awarded new contracts they have forgotten quality and more focused on growth and expansion. Does not feel like a non- profit, but more like corporate America!
The diversity is poor, especially in upper management.( the website is extremely diverse, however internally there is a different story)
I left this organization and I am at a place where I am appreciated and encouraged to advance.
Pros
Can work from home
Cons
Poor diversity, not open to new ideas, poor opportunity for advancement

Wonderful place to work
Service Coordinator (Current Employee) –  MDFebruary 24, 2015
This is a great place to work. I typically telework, but the team approach that is taken for the diligent care of each client allows me to feel like I'm apart of a close-knit family. I enjoy the independence of making my own schedule ensuring that all assignments are completed each month. The attention and care that is given to each client is what makes the difference in what I do each day. Everyone works hard each day to ensure clients are getting the services they need in the community.

Used to be awesome. Now not so much
Case Manager (Former Employee) –  Millersville, MDOctober 20, 2014
This company has grown by more that 200 % in the past few years. It used to be a family-centered company where you feel as though the best interests of the co-workers and the clients were the main focus. Unfortunately that thought has changed over the past three years. It is now a non-profit that is definitely about the bottom line. It is a shame, because it really used to be a great place to work. Now co-workers are taught to shut up and work well outside of business hours just to meet the unrealistic expectations of the higher-ups. They joke about the lowly worker bees from the penthouse (a term actually used for those on a higher floor from the people doing all the work to keep them there). Please do yourself a favor and steer clear of TCC!

not enough room in this box.

Excellent work environment, productive and fun
Infants and Toddlers Specialist (Former Employee) –  Millersville, MDApril 6, 2014
Worked together with care management nurses and social workers to coordinate health and development services for young children with specialized medical needs. Worked together with and maintained service coordination contracts with several local Infants and Toddlers Programs in Maryland.

Very supportive management and co-workers. Very knowledgeable and professional staff. Many opportunities for growth and development through participation in additional curriculum development and presentation projects.

The most difficult part of the job was that the position was grant funded through the Maryland Infants and Toddlers Program on a yearly basis. Services of the agency were state-wide so position often required traveling.
Pros
Comfortable office environment, professional and knowledgeable co-workers, opportunities for professional development
Cons
A lot of traveling.

Project Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Millersville, MDMarch 2, 2014
the company has a good work life balance because they allow you a lot of flexibility. you are given freedom to bring new ideas and your opinion is always valued. with that being said, this isn't consistent across the board. many people do not have the opportunity to communicate directly with management on new ways to better serve clients or how to improve the culture. the attitude is "glass half empty".

the environment is an older demographic. it was very difficult to build relationships with other co-workers.
Pros
every holiday off. a week of between christmas and new years
Cons
lots of veterans. not receptive to change.
