Project Coordinator, Finance & Accounting (Current Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAJuly 9, 2018
A typical work day consist of processing daily pay cycles (printing and verifying vendor checks, remote and vault deposits of cash, checks and foreign currency to bank, process invoices (ensuring invoice information is correct, confirm purchase order numbers and routing to vendor services. I have learned new aspects of cash handling and AP/Payroll processing, since coming to work at J Paul Getty Trust. Leadership is fair and willing to assist during busy/crucial times and always maintains an easy non-confrontational open door policy.

Most enjoyable part of the job is every other Friday off.

Management here is the worst
Security Officer (Former Employee) –  1200 Getty Center Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90049December 26, 2017
Typical day at work is procedural opening of the museum roll call and getting our radios. The rest of the day you just stand there and tell people to keep a safe distance when they get too close. Everyone gossips because they're bored all day so you hear all the rumors in the break room. Management gets bored and has nothing to do so they begin to sneak up on us while we're on duty to try to catch us on our phones. Too many people in power. They tend to step on each others toes at the end they use people to make examples out of them. Honesty doesn't mean anything when it comes to management here. Would not recommend it to anyone.

TJPGT is a wonderful location to work. It is a place full of knowledge and a place that employs very smart, dedicated people. It has great benefits and it is a place where you can learn and grow your career but also feed your mind.

Routine work habit, Does get boring easily
Security Officer (Current Employee) –  Los Angeles, CA 90049May 5, 2017
Most days are very quiet and relaxed in terms of stress level and work intensity. Only amount of visitor crowd attendance impacts the stress level. General complaint are about management, the managers not the supervisors, and lack of moral support for security department. Learn how to communicate with different kinds of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Can easily get into trouble for obvious frowned upon acts (cell phone usage) but straight forward job. Just by showing up to work and causing any problems for management you'll be considered a good worker. Can only get into trouble if you put yourself out there and make it obvious.

Getting paid just stand all day

As an intern you want the right type of experience to get your feet wet and in the door of places you want to work. J. Paul Getty is great for doing that.

gorgeous campus, slow to move up the ladder
Systems Administrator (Former Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAFebruary 7, 2017
There is no finer looking place to work in Los Angeles and, I'd bet, the rest of the country. Stunning views from all angles. Amazing access to art and research at the highest levels. Amazingly talented people from all walks of life. Like being back on a college campus in some regards.

Job promotion is GLACIAL but the quality of life you get is huge: every other Friday off, benefits packages that provide the best work/life balance you can imagine, an incredible location and more.

Just be ready: change happens very slowly. It's painful how slow. Management has no incentive to change quickly, so they don't. So if you're someone who can play the long game, it's an incredible place. If you're someone used to corporate America, the pace might be maddening for you at first.
Pros
Stunning views from all angles, every other Friday off
Cons
slow pace of advancement

Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAJune 10, 2016
beware it all depends on your relationship with your supervisor/manager. If you guys are friends you might do well. But if you don't share personal information and you're not friends you better find another place to work.

Facilities staff member (Former Employee) –  Los Angeles, CADecember 8, 2015
Great for someone who does not want to move up and doesn't mind a lot of bureaucracy. Facilities division is not a good place to work - Facilities management does NOT care about you.
Pros
$5 lunches are cool.
Cons
Bad management and no growth.

The J. Paul Getty was and is a great place to work as a Security Guard, you are surrounded pretty much around good people. Supervision need to be worked on i feel some supervisors weren't qualified for the job, when other were, but when positions came up and you went for the interview you never got promoted. Over all the J.Paul Getty was wonderful!

SECURITY OFFICER (Current Employee) –  Los AngelesJanuary 5, 2015
The Getty is a very good job, it has a good pay rate and benafits are not. working here you get people from all over the place so youll meet people from everywhere. The hardest part about the job is the traffic is always bad getting to work and your standing for most of day and its boring. The good parts are the pay, onsite gym, and the people you meet.
Pros
gym, food, scenery
Cons
traffic getting their and going home, on your feet all day, coworkers complain
