Very poor management, no support for aggressive situations and not enough pay

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I worked at TLT for several years. It started out good, we had lots of support from management and others. Then management changed and things went to bad really quickly. The lack of support from management started to have an impact on the job we were trying to do. Clients would get aggressive and attack teachers and management did very little to support the staff. pay wasnt very good, considering what we had to endure. We were told that we could not leave at our designated time until a relief person was there. Towards the end of my time there, there were many days that there was no relief and management didn't answer their phones to let employees know the plan. Many employees have children and they have to pay for someone to watch their children and staying late requires more money to be spent, when you voice your concerns-you are labelled as a not team player.

Pros

great coworkers, decent client

Cons

poor management, not enough pay, no help

Terrible

Always short staffed. If your person dows not come in to relieve you from your shift you have to stay until someone arrives. Pay is minimal for the work being done.

Fun and rewarding

The director and assistant director are great. Working with kids and parents is rewarding. The center cares about their staff. I recommend working there.

The Learning Tree

Children are constantly being shifted from room to room. You almost never have a day where it is just your assigned children in your classroom. They are always being moved up or down and the rooms are not staffed consistently or fully.Teachers are very often out of ratioTeachers are stretched with unreasonable work hours (9-10 hour days) with additional expectations to teaching and tending to the classroom; such as doing laundry, cleaning walls, doing dishes, and customer service messaging etc.More of a business than an education center / I wouldn't work here if you're interested in education and really working to learn more .... They are very good at looking and presenting pretty - but it is SO disorganized and somehow still insanely micromanaged on the insideGood part is always the kids and friends you make along the way - that's always the most difficult part of leaving toxic workplaces such as these.

Stressful and overwhelming

This job was so stressful and overwhelming, there is no structure with the parents or teacher. The professionalism at this place there is none, they expect you to be out of ratio when they alone teacher to do no calls no shows scheduled teachers in the same room to be out at the same, then sent people home when they know they are under staff and expect you to work all day, I was over work and under paid, and when you mixed business and family and friends together you get to many cheifs and not enough Indians... The best decision I made was to leave... The morals and values about this job is unsafe for other when management allow there teachers to leave children alone or out of ratio on the playground

Unprofessional workplace. Negative environment.

The good part of this job was the students and families. As for the rest, the experience I had is unacceptable. From directors yelling in my face in front of coworkers and students to being out of ratio consistently, to a consistent refusal to intervene when children suffered being bit by the same child for the course of almost three years - As a teacher here I experienced no support from directors and higher ups. Each day became increasingly difficult, as the expectations were for me to handle everything while being understaffed, often overworked and always unsupported. When I finally gained the courage to quit I learned that the treatment I received is very atypical of a business. I entered into the Learning Tree Company soon after high school and did not know that this work environment was truly ridiculous. The pay rate is low. Seeing fellow teachers cry in the classroom over work related stress is common at the Learning Tree.

Went down hill fast

New owner took over, running this place into the grounds. Don’t pay much at all! Staff can be friendly at times or very bossy. Owner doesn’t help and expects everyone to put in a lot of extra work and does not pay accordingly.

Like most childcare centers

The main issue I have working here is the inconsistency with which room I will be teaching in each day. Even if you are assigned to a class, you will rarely be there. Teachers get moved around frequently because there is not enough staff or people call out. Some of the ratios are too high for the age of the child. The job does not pay nearly as much as it should. You do not get a lunch break. Your “break” is during nap but you are still working by supervising. If the children do not sleep, then you don’t get a break.

Pros

Working with kids

Cons

Low pay

Could be a great job if they had better management.

Working with children that are special needs can be a little challenging but its also exciting. knowing that you are making a difference and are able to help them learn new things. You really get attached to the kids and its a fun job. Management is horrible and they are very unprofessional. Payroll always miscount hours worked and are always messing up the paychecks, and when they mess up your checks you have to wait two weeks or more before you get your money that you have worked hard for.

Pros

Being able to be a positive influence in the children's life, The unlimited over time .

Cons

Management is so unprofessional they do not know how to treat there employees, you have too keep up with your hours because they like to cheat people out of their money, they do no appreciate there good employees at all, the staff and management treat some of the kids really bad.

Truly feels like a family.

I worked at The Learning Tree for 5 year. It’s really like a family leaving was really hard for me. Living in Leland and having a toddler of my own it’s easy to just work in Leland. I really miss my second family and they will alway have a part of my heart.

Very toxic work environments

I’ve been working for the learning tree since 2019, i started in April, and left in late September due to serious stress. A lot of over time work, and no help from directors or the lead teacher i worked with. My stress was so bad that my hair fell out, I began losing weight, I threw up blood at one point, missed a menstrual cycle. I decided to leave. A year later I received an email asking if I would come back. I’ve been back since October of 2020. Nothing has changed, if anything it’s worse. Absolutely no support or communication from ANY of the directors. They are not taking sick policies seriously, nor are they taking proper precautions for covid. I absolutely would not recommend working here. Very toxic work environment.

Pros

none

Fast paced and fun place to work

Accept the things that you can't change e.g the pay they won't bulge on the pay. They could save a lot of money on retraining if they increase the pay.. I loved the job. It's a lot of work. There is always something to do. I worked well with everyone. There are some disagreements but that's expected. If you're coming for the money then don't apply. You have to love what you are doing. After discovering someone else salary, I felt short changed. I'm the one with the masters and that person only has a high school diploma. I have no ill will toward that person but I do more work and I have more education. I left the company to follow my dreams. I wanted more but I was told no. I was out the door regardless, but I would have stayed until they found a replacement. Keeping all of this in mind, if you need a job and you're trying to reach a goal, the learning tree opens doors, if you have them on your resume. I would recommend 3 years, if psychology is your major, nothing less.

Pros

Overtime

Cons

Low pay. You're not paid what you're worth

I was absolutely traumatized.

This was my first real career job out of college so I was bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to make a difference in my field. I was met with unsafe work environments for both myself and my students, teachers who LOST CHILDREN, I would find random children (as young as age 2) alone in the hallways near the entrances and exits and when I would return them to the classroom, the teachers never even noticed the children were gone. I reported the FREQUENT missing children to my Director and Assistant Director, who then proceeded to tell the teachers that "They better stop losing kids because I was snitching on them and would probably call regional management." The program on paper was fantastic, but the disgusting administration and teaching staff was such a disappointment. I still to this day worry for any child enrolled at an Learning Tree location.

Pros

None. Legitimately no pros.

Cons

Mandatory overtime, incompetent teachers and administrators, unsafe work environment

Great Coworkers, Great management, pay sucked

They say there is a policy to prevent drama, yet nothing is done when drama ensues. They say come get us when you need help, yet when the time comes, nobody can help, because nobody will stay because of the pay. The pay makes it to where people leave because they aren't able to make enough money to support themselves.

Cons

Staff Turnover is high
