Lack Support but Encourages Independence
Expressive Therapist (Current Employee) - The Medical Center of Aurora - November 6, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedOverall there is a lack of support from administration - however, the benefit of that is you aren't micromanaged in this position and do have the freedom and flexibility to lead groups in the way you want and have some breathing room for prep/planning. There is a lot of burnout, however, and it's clear that expressive therapists are considered the least important department here.

Certified Pharmacy Technician
CPhT (Current Employee) - Aurora, CO - October 13, 2023
Good place to work for, Amazing staff and coworkers. Training for the pharmacy was a little freehanded, no real "proper" training. Management didn't give any of the proper forms, and policy that would've been a great aid in future settings. 10 hour shifts, in a level 2 trauma er, so it is very busy and you will hear stroke notifications quite often.

Great staff/coworkers, will burn you out or churn you out
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Aurora, CO - August 31, 2023
The staff is wonderful. If you work hard and know how to do your job you will have opportunities to move around - this is mainly because everyone leaves because of how low paying and how much you are taken advantage of. Always taking extra patients, always doing more work outside of your role, etc, etc, etc.
Pros
Great staff
Cons
worst pay (true for most of HCA) in the state, short staffed always, high turn over

Great management and pay
Float Nurse (Current Employee) - Aurora, CO - August 19, 2023
Float Pool manager is phenomenal. Supports his staff and lots of freedom with self-schedule. Pay is also decent for float pool. Some floors are short staffed and there's been lots of staff turnover. But being in float pool, its manageable since you're not stuck on one floor and management is great with switching your unit if you ask house supervisor to not put you back on a floor 2 nights in a row.

Its fine if youre part of the club
Physical Therapist Assistant (Former Employee) - Aurora, CO - May 31, 2023
The pay is laughably low for PTA's. At least they dont sweat you too hard about productivity. Everything is fine if you are part of the liberal crew and dont question anything. The second youre deemed not a part of the drones you get your filed papered with garbage and drummed out.

Staffing issue
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Aurora, CO - March 16, 2023
There are a lot of travel nurses because there’s not enough nurses on the floor. Charge nurse takes 6 patients most of the time or charges for other units as well.

Lack of resources
Music Therapist (Former Employee) - Aurora, CO - February 18, 2023
The Medical Center of Aurora is not an ideal place for clinical therapies, acute psychiatric services are limited to group work and there are limited resources and supervision support for services. Promising group of therapists faced with an unfortunate amount of systemic obstacles.

Great place
Behavioral Health Technician (Former Employee) - Adolescent mental health unit - December 4, 2022
Very accommodating and welcoming place to work. Working here as a mom, they were very flexible with my schedule and also gave generous maternity leave and I was able to feel confident that I would have a job upon returning. management was easy to talk to and bring concerns up with.

Good place to learn
Registered Nurse (Former Employee) - Aurora, CO - October 11, 2022
Many opportunities for extra shifts. There are several educational programs that the company pays for. The patient load is heavy and the pay is not great but it is competitive.

Short staffed under paid over worked
Radiologic Technologist (Former Employee) - Main campus - April 12, 2022
If you want to get run to the ground and always work short staffed no matter how much you ask for help this would be your place. Toxic environment and it just spreads there is no support.

Not much teamwork
Lab Assistant (Current Employee) - Aurora, CO - March 22, 2022
Management listens but doesn't do much to make work environment better. Short staffed majority of times. Not much teamwork. You are fortunate if you get both a break and a lunch.
Pros
Hard working coworkers
Cons
Short staffed

Helping those that are in need of health insurance
Patient Benefit Advisor (Former Employee) - Aurora, CO - October 10, 2021
This facility does not care about staff that are on the frontline at all. Managers , are normally working from home, and bark orders out to screen patients whom are positive for COVID , not thinking of how this will effect staff or family. I would never recommend anyone to work for this hospital as you will be expendible.
Pros
None
Cons
No pay for any holiday time & you must use your PTO time that you have accumlated.

Excellent place to get nursing experience
Registered Nurse (RN) (Current Employee) - Aurora, CO - October 1, 2021
TMCA like any workplace has its flaws but this is the best place to get experience in whatever nursing specialty you'd like. Landing a job here gets your foot in the door to ICU, OR, IR, Cath Lab, or ER. The hospital is understaffed but that's the case at every hospital in the Denver metro area. They really need to work on hiring more staff and retaining current staff.
Pros
Education, job mobility, great coworkers, Good pay if in float pool
Cons
Understaffed, Pay outside of float pool is low for the market

Challenging patient population
