upper management is absent
CNC Lathe Machinist (Former Employee) - Rochester, NY - February 21, 2022
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by Indeedill start off by saying it was a pleasure to work here at first but the 50/h mandatory overtime got old after 4 months wasnt dropped down to 40 hours till about december. pay was okay at first but for one employee to run and maintain 25 machines is a lot and when asked about hiring support or a raise it was the same thing “they’re trying to hire someone” or “ill talk to them”. if they aren’t on the floor at a machine they are not your friend and only care about there pocket and expect you to just conform because you make an hourly wage while they make Salary. and they hire a bunch of temps for other departments so new faces almost every week. not to mention they dont care about their employees as you are just a pion to upper management your life problems and dilemmas mean nothing to them
Pros
they give you ham at christmas
Cons
pay rate, management is absent and hr is never around

Employee (Current Employee) - Henrietta - July 15, 2022
This is mostly a good place to work, low wages, and rare raises. Culture is nowhere near as good as it used to be. The atmosphere is the most laid back I've ever experienced.

Team Orientated, Open To Feedback & Takes Action
Machine Operator (Current Employee) - Rochester, NY - June 13, 2022
The Outdoor Group is an awesome place to work! I feel a sense of ownership in my work and have seen my recommendations incorporated. They really listen! Machine floor is comfortable (great AC) and people are friendly / generally like working there! Plus you get to shoot bows on your breaks if you want and participate in their Archery Leagues. Also, it's pretty cool to see the 'World's Most Shootable Bow' come to life and play a small role in that process!
Pros
Archery League, Loaner Bows, Air Conditioned Factory

Draining, yet still fun
Sales Representative (Former Employee) - West Henrietta, NY - March 13, 2022
My direct manager customer service is amazing she is a real person and understands you are as well. Outside of her I have 2 other direct managers........... need I say more. The dealers and consumers call in for tech help and order entry, at first not that bad. But in this industry everyone is a bow tech and knows their "stuff" better then you. BUT they are calling for your help. So that is difficult to explain things when the person listening "knows" your wrong before you speak. This can be very draining. Not all the calls are bad some are easy to the point and the way the job should be. My direct co workers are great and it seems to go down hill from there. Maybe that is due to the limited interactions with other departments. But after general passing conversation, i not interested in engaging most people further.

Good place to work
Manufacturing Associate (Current Employee) - West Henrietta, NY - December 28, 2020
TOG is a good place to work. There has been times of struggle, but for the most part things are on the incline. Everything seems to be trending in the right direction but there is still work to be done. Because of this, there are plenty of ways to prove yourself, but due to the small size of the company, advancement isn't always a possibility unfortunately. There are some people in the company that have a very solid mindset on how things should go, and there tends to be disagreements in management, which makes prioritizing and excelling very difficult at times. Overall, there are struggles but it is a great place to learn new skills in an interesting industry.
Pros
Shooting range, decent pay, lots to learn
Cons
Advancement is limited, they will let you work as much as possible without much recognition

A constructive work environment with vision for success
Product Management (Current Employee) - West Henrietta, NY - August 13, 2020
This company has the people and initiatives set in place to succeed. I personally feel appreciated for the work I am doing which was not the case at my previous employer. The overall atmosphere is positive, and everyone seems to band together for the greater good of the company. In return, the company takes care of their employers.
Pros
company is fair and transparent
Cons
no profit sharing or 401k matching as of yet

The company will use you until they can replace you for cheaper.
Machine Operator (Current Employee) - West Henrietta, NY - June 5, 2020
This was once a great company to work for. Now this place is filled with incompetent people that don’t do their job, watch movies on their phone and management does nothing. It’s hard going to work every day when other employees have rapids on 25 percent and just sit there. Benefits are garbage and if you don’t suck up you don’t move up. Looking for another job.

No advancement, No Culture, Would Not Recommend
Employee (Former Employee) - West Henrietta, NY - August 20, 2019
Very cliquy with only a few employees being promoted. Employees are told there is no advancement within all departments. No pay increases or quarterly reviews. Compensation/Benefits average to low. If management likes you you will succeed but you will still be taken advantage of.
Pros
You can say you "work in a hunting company"
Cons
Dead end

Terrible place to work
Employee (Former Employee) - Rochester, NY - August 16, 2019
Zero advancement working at The Outdoor Group. Extreme drama throughout the whole company. Very inappropriate conversations and situations an employee is put through.

It'll do in a pinch
Machine Operator (Former Employee) - Kentucky - July 30, 2019
At KY, Poor management. Only promoted family or friends. Co-workers on my shift were great. Co-workers were willing to learn and teach others on the shift.

One of the worst places I’ve work
Lead (Former Employee) - Henrietta, NY - July 22, 2019
Let’s start by saying they recently had a lay off of 8 people which some of the higher ups didn’t even know about. My supervisor was young and inexperienced, no leadership qualities, would talk about other employees behind their backs and would make more mistakes than the people under him but got promoted somehow. Benefits are garbage. You get 2 weeks vacation after a year but don’t get another week until 10 years haha that’s a joke. Not enough work to last the day so they would find meaningless work for you to do.

Drain the life out of you.
Sales Representative (Former Employee) - Henrietta, NY - April 16, 2019
Great company when I started there. Then after two years they terminated the people who originally hired me and then went on a downward spiral.
Over the last two years this company targeted unrealistic sales goals and management truly did not care about its employees or dealers.

Productive work day
Assembly Worker (Former Employee) - Rochester, NY - March 27, 2019
The first six months, we worked ten hour days. There were large orders to fill. Later, the hours were reduced to eight hour days and eventually I was laid off. The work was not difficult at all and there was a variety of all cultures. There were small parts and pieces to put together, but they were manageable with reading glasses. I enjoyed the experience and of how to use the equipment we created.

Family oriented and goal driven.
Sales Representative (Current Employee) - Henrietta, NY - March 22, 2019
Working at TOG is a refreshing change of pace from the normal outside sales roles or even inside sales roles. Instead of being forced to make hundreds of sales calls a day with little success, sales reps are set up for success with our dealers. Admittedly, things got tough when the company moved two entire facilities up to the main facility in New York but once that move was complete, the correct changes occurred and the company was back on track. It's crazy that a top archery/outdoor company is manufactured and distributed right in our back yards in upstate New York. The workplace culture is something to bring up, once you're apart of the team, you are treated as such, just like a second family away from home!
Pros
Work/life balance is great, the pay is fair, bonuses are offered for hard work, incentives to use the products in our personal lives, onsite picnics/workplace events throughout the year.
Cons
Company may make big changes throughout the year...but with a growing company, I think that is important.

Can be a fun place to work
Machinest (Current Employee) - Rochester, NY - March 17, 2019
I enjoy my job. Most days fly by because I keep busy.
Never have a problem when I have to take kids to the doctor or dentist. Famiy first mentalitie! They do a good amount of family fun activities mostly in the summer time. Indoor shooting range to learn and use the products we make. Overall a good place to work!!
Pros
Discount on products, decent benefits, they are trying to add more family friendly events.

Fellow workers are good people
Machine Operator (Current Employee) - Henrietta, NY - February 14, 2019
Poor Management and Human Resources. Management does not treat people all the same. One person takes weeks off at a time and gets away with it. The Upper management does not know how to run a Company.
Pros
Fellow workers
Cons
Bad management
