Development Assistant (Former Employee) – Chicago, IL – November 26, 2018
It was an amazing experience and the co-workers I was placed with were wonderful. I did not appreciate the tasks that I was assigned to do that did not match my job description. Management and leadership were not presented in a positive matter. Helping the community was one of the great tasks I got to enjoy but I did not appreciate the yelling and high demands of tasks from upper management in an unorganized environment. I do not recommend this place unless you want the experience and are curious about the neighborhood and its culture. I also do not recommend this place because there is no balance between work and life.

A typical day at work can vary from program, but typically you will to do things that are not part of the job description, including helping candidates to win elections for example. Management is poor, no leadership and no HR. Since I was an exempt employee they made me work for long hours in a average of 15 hours per day something I would double the minimum amount of hours required. The hardest par of the job are that you will be push to work for political agendas while violating IRS rules for non-profits that prohibits the organization to participate or engage in political activities including promoting candidates. Be careful if you intent to apply for a job here, the only thing I can say co-workers are great and you end up loving them. They just need to get better including a better selection of leadership staff.
