Private Lesson Instructor in Andover, MA
on October 13, 2021
Best part about this job is the people--teachers, coworkers, and the manager. There are wonderful people and teachers that actually care about their work, their students, and what they're doing. But upper management is terrible, money-focused, and disorganized. They have incredible talent in-house, and make consistent decisions to hire elsewhere rather than provide an advancement path. The teachers are the glue that holds everything together--without them, it is incredibly unstable.

There are some great teachers here and a few good managers as well. Unfortunately, upper management is extremely profit focused with no respect for employees current or former. The overall company mission is focused on selling multiple lessons and programs to as many students as possible with no vision for improving the educational experience for those students. This is a shame considering there are many hard working teachers here who do care about providing a high quality learning experience, even though they are given little in the way of compensation and support. Extremely high expectations are placed on all employees for very low pay and work life balance is non-existent unless you're there part time (and even as a part-timer, expect pressure to come in extra days any time you are sick or need to miss a day for another job). Upper management is also incredibly disorganized with both customers and employees subject to constant changes. I would advise thinking twice before interviewing for any position here.

Pay rate is low and raises are never offered, they must always be requested. Instructors are regularly expected to perform administrative tasks they are not compensated for. The focus is on the facilities, administration, and programs offered. Instructors and their experience are secondary as made clear by the large number of experienced senior staff who have been let go in favor of younger, less experienced instructors who they can pay less.

All around great experience. Excellent teachers and management. I looked forward to everyday I had the opportunity to teach. I would recommend Real school to any teacher/ musician who wants to be part of a great team.
