Overall, lifeguarding at the Summit YMCA is a great place to gain valuable work experience and life skills. A typical day consists of supervising the pool area, greeting and talking with customers, or teaching swim lessons to children ages 5-12. The hardest part of the job is ensuring the safety of the pool at all times. Since lifeguards don't know when something life-threatening or dangerous may occur, preparing oneself for the worst is the most important aspect of the job. The most enjoyable part of being a lifeguarding is getting to know fellow co-workers, patrons, and the community that makes up the Summit YMCA.
