Easy job
Manager (Former Employee) –  New York, NYMarch 23, 2019
If you are a regular associate it’s a pretty easy job, once you move up it becomes more stressful. There are times you have to deal with being in the store by yourself for 3-4 hours alone. Other then that there is a lot of downtime that could be good and bad, good for relaxing bad because they pressure you to make a ridiculous goal that doesn’t match your location. The customers are legit where you get your highlights knowing you helped someone and look forward to seeing your regular customers. I would say this is a great high school job.
Pros
Some customers are really the only highlight of your day.
Cons
Unstaffed and don’t get paid enough for the amount of stress out on the employees

Very few breaks
Key Holder/Sales Associate (Current Employee) –  NYC, NYFebruary 10, 2019
You are at most times required to work on your half hour break due to lack of staff and you are never permitted a 15 minute break, nope no way. There are no security cameras in the stores and you are often left alone in the store to handle multiple customers and phones. The list goes on...
Pros
Parking
Cons
Smh, there are just to many to list.

Great job if you are passionate about health and helping people.
Store Manager (Current Employee) –  New York, NYSeptember 29, 2018
The workplace is a culture of health and wellness. Like any job, there are highly trained, extraordinary managers that are willing to do whatever it takes to help you succeed, and there is also the polar opposite. The workplace culture is great if you love health and fitness. The hardest part of the job is balancing between various day to day store operations such as balancing payroll expenses, completing rotations, processing shipment, training and developing your team whilst ensuring each customer experience is exceptional in addition to growing your business through grassroots efforts/community outreach. The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing that you made a positive difference in someone's quality of life almost every day.
Pros
Discount on products, flexible work schedule, free training, company culture
Cons
career growth is limited after a certain point, salary could be more competitive

Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJanuary 18, 2018
a typical day consists of clocking in reviewing daily dose. checking rotations that need to be completed and also check last nights work if it was completed. Follow up on morning shift on what was done and what still needs to be done.

Store Manager (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJanuary 3, 2018
Setting schedules, managing money, inventory, product buying, finding venders and booking events, training staff, maintaining the store.

I learned business management skills.
Hardest part was no life balance and uniform requirement. I like being able to be myself.

Most enjoyable parts were the customers, the product education and conventions.
Pros
great salary. great benefits.
Cons
uniform. long schedules.

Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee) –  New York, NYOctober 24, 2017
It is an interesting place to work at. Depending on your manager it will be a great place or not. Promotion from within is something it really lacks and is what causes so many employees to not be happy and just leave.

Vitamin Shoppe
Sales Associate (Current Employee) –  New York, NYOctober 10, 2017
Wouldn't recommend this job. Company only cares for sales and pushing new add ons, not about customers. Management will send you to other stores and have you work double shifts, no overtime allowed. Schedules are inconsistently made, every week is different and the schedules are sent out the night before the next week shifts are supposed to begin.
Pros
discounts
Cons
short breaks, demanding, inconsistent

The District Manager for this company has favorites & if your not one of them you get no recognition or help!!!
Manager (Former Employee) –  New York, NYSeptember 23, 2017
a typical day is assisting cutomers health & wellness goals.
what I have learned is communication is key. Listening is very imortant and helping others is rewarding. The
management team at store level is great. The problem is the District Manager with his lies, favoritism & selctive acknowledgements.
Most enjoyable part of the job getting to meet new people & building new customer relationships.
Pros
Learning about health

Assistant Manager/ customer service (Former Employee) –  New York, NYSeptember 18, 2017
They do train you to know about the products. Easy to be promoted if your dedicated. I started as a part time sales associate and was promoted to full time in 4 months. Then trained for management in a year.

Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee) –  New York, NYSeptember 24, 2016
It's a hit or miss with this company. Certain managers are great and some will make your life miserable. Hours also depend on how the stores run and how much staff is there.

Key Holder to Store Manager
Store Manager (Former Employee) –  New York, NYApril 6, 2016
Excellent company to grow with. To make it beyond store manager you must have multi-unit experience and preferably a 4-year degree. Work life balance is exceptional in all roles. Compensation is about average compared to the retail industry. Job Security is exceptional except if you make a serious violation of company policy. Management is dependent upon your immediate supervisor or district manager. I have experienced both stability and instability depending on the district I was in. Culture is exceptional. Vitamin Shoppe is a health and wellness lifestyle brand. Should company benefits include more samples to partners all would benefit.
Cons
minimal staff

Most enjoyable part of the job
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  New York, NYDecember 15, 2015
Worked at The Vitamin Shoppe for many years and became very familiar with several locations within Manhattan. Some of the best moments came from customer interactions. I really enjoyed helping and learning from the customers. Interacting with the customers was a great way to learn about new trends within the health and wellness industry. It is a very rewarding job if you want to a have an impact on customers' lives. Besides this, TVS pays too little attention to its store managers. Store Managers are often not held accountable for their lack of organization. Many stores do not have appropriate facilities such as restrooms and meeting areas. This would lead to managers having "on the spot coaching" or berating on a sales floor. TVS would greatly improve its service to the public by keeping its prices moderate and hiring more educated employees. Overall, retail is a thankless job and VS corporate office helps to solidify this by underpaying and cutting benefits to its retail employees.
Cons
Retail burnout. Not enough days off
