On average you work 8 hours a day.

Eight. But if someone from the next shift calls in sick, I am usually the one who has to stay late, making my day 12 hours; and potentially longer if we cannot find someone to pick up the last 4 hours of the shift. My co-worker can never stay late because of child-care issues.
