Thorlabs Inc Careers and Employment

About us
Thorlabs Quantum Electronics (formerly Covega Corporation) makes optical components, modules, and subsystems used in the telecommunications, industrial, medical, defense, and test and measurement industries. Covega's intensity modulators, laser diode controllers, optical amplifiers, and semiconductor lasers are incorporated into equipment such as Internet – more... routers and network test equipment. Its products are sold through distributors, including Mitsui and Laser2000. The company was acquired in 2008 by Fremont, California-based Gemfire Corporation and again in 2009 by Thorlabs Inc. of Newton, New Jersey. Covega was formed in 2003 by the merger of CODEON Corporation and Quantum Photonics.

Gemfire, a photonics company, wasn't long for parenthood (about 13 months), selling Covega's assets in March 2009 to Thorlabs, a designer and manufacturer of photonics equipment for biomedical, manufacturing, and research applications. Gemfire divested the company from its Planar Light Circuit product family in order to focus on its Planar Lightwave Circuits and integrated subsystems. Thorlabs acquired Covega for its optical technologies capabilities and full in-house indium phosphide and lithium niobate capabilities and foundry services, as well as its 40,000-sq.-foot facility in Maryland. Thorlabs renamed its child Thorlabs Quantum Electronics and made it the ninth member of its family of businesses. Thorlabs operates manufacturing and sales offices throughout the US, China, France, Germany, Japan, Sweden, and the UK.

What are people saying about the leadership at Thorlabs Inc?

1.0
If you’re thinking of applying here, don’t.
Written by Employee (Current Employee) from Newton, NJ on March 11, 2020
This place is fine if it’s a last resort to pay bills, nothing more. The little guy that puts out the product to be sold and fixes the issues don’t matter to this company. If you aren’t the “higher up” end of the totem pole, you won’t be valued in the slightest. Favoritism is rampant in this company. You’ll get no recognition no matter how well you - more...
