Good job
Pet Concierge (Former Employee) - Elmhurst, IL - December 3, 2023
Great company to work for. Decent pay, good benefits, understanding coworkers. It is a fun environment and a good way to get your foot in the door if you are interested in veterinary medicine.

Jobs at Thrive Pet Healthcare
Do not work for these people
Veterinary Technician (Former Employee) - San Antonio, TX - November 22, 2023
They do not care about you at all. You will be overworked & underpaid. Then they will throw you away like you're nothing. Managers are unproffessional & cant communicate with their staff, some are just downright petty. Literally anywhere else is better.

Unprofessional, Unresponsive, Inappropriate focus
Veterinary Technician (Former Employee) - Frederick, MD - November 19, 2023
Thrive considers itself revolutionary for those looking for good culture, work/life balance, and amazing benefits. All of these things are standard selling points for any veterinary company I've worked for. What sets them apart is their inability to follow through with scheduled meetings, a crazy high premium and deductible for their healthcare package, a few "sorry about the mental health crisis in vet med" emails with links for some therapy sessions, and their inability to figure out who is paying you if you sign up for their relief network.
Pros
A relief network for PRN shift types, work/life balance, some locations have great management
Cons
Poor pay, abysmal support from corporate, trickle-down blame games

Good team, people really care about their job, training is finally in place, team members work together as a whole. Learn new technical skills every day. Management cares about team member growth.

RUN FAR AWAY, worst company I’ve ever worked for
Veterinary Technician (Current Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - October 9, 2023
I’d recommend running far away. Management is awful and do not run things honestly at all. When they’re around they’re only around for an hour or 2 before they’re literally rushing to get out of the hospital. They always stress how easily reachable they are but they every time you try to reach out for something hospital related or otherwise you get ignored. They cut hours randomly and without communication and when you give your opinion about it or explain that you cannot loose out on money you’re met with a shrug of the shoulders and an “oh well”. Honestly would never ever recommend applying to this place to anyone.
Pros
Honestly nothing
Cons
Honestly everything

Does not deliver
Veterinarian (Former Employee) - Texas - October 1, 2023
Over-promise and under-deliver. Will promise the moon to get you to sign on but will not deliver upon those promises. Poorly-trained support staff. Disconnect between upper management and hospital staff.

Greet people to work with, help people in time in need, but RUN
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Rochester, NY - September 28, 2023
Horrible management and company atmosphere, severely overpriced and a miserable place to work. Truly enjoyed the people I worked with and the mission of not for company and management.

Poorly Managed
LVT (Current Employee) - Rochester, NY - September 21, 2023
Thrive as a corporation is horribly managed. They bought out our hospital, refused to negotiate contracts with DVM's and allowed nearly all support staff to quit. Our emergency hospital was fully closed due to Thrive's poor management and lack of support leaving our community at a major loss.

Poor culture
Practice Manager (Former Employee) - Rochester, NY - September 16, 2023
Unable to count of Human Resources to be unbiased, ignore employees needs, poor responses times or no responses at all to difficult questions, ignored by regional and and upper management.

Dishonest and chaotic
Veterinarian (Former Employee) - San Diego, CA - September 10, 2023
While the company may Thrive, you likely won’t. The culture is toxic and money driven. The actual support for veterinary staff is marginal at best and feedback is either ignored or not acted on. Thrive is all about profit. Period!

Collaborative and supportive
Practice Manager (Current Employee) - San Antonio, TX - September 5, 2023
I have been with the company for almost 4 years. No company is perfect however Thrive really cares for its staff and wants them to grow. You have support from peers and management.

Hate with a passion!
Techinician (Current Employee) - California - August 25, 2023
They entice you in with the promise of flexible workdays and a decent homework balance, which makes the facility sound fantastic. All the management cares about is making money, which is terrible and incompetent. We hold regular monthly meetings to discuss ways to increase the amount of money clients spend. They play employees against one another and fail to keep some people accountable. If management discovers you working on CE or anything unrelated to the hospital, they will write you up and never promote or offer CE. They enable their employees to be mistreated and foster a nasty work atmosphere. The main factor is money once again. They have poor management and are money-hungry. This is one of the worst hospitals I have ever worked at.
Cons
Clueless management, greedy, selfish

This is the best corporation I have ever worked for
Team Lead/CSR (Current Employee) - Austin, TX - August 15, 2023
I work at an extremely fast paced GP clinic, at the front desk. The leadership team supports all employees and does not shy away from conflict management. The team I work with is supportive and we work extremely well together. On a typical day we see around 46 regular appointments (at least) and 3-6 surgery patients. We have 4 full time doctors. We get a lot of new patients/clients, keep up with records for patients, referrals to specialists and/or emergency vets. There are some days that are tougher than others, such as days where you have to euthanize 5-8 patients. However, we also get the good days; Days where we get to see multiple puppies & kittens, or you get to see patients who have been dealing with a frustrating illness start showing improvement (or they are back to normal). You get really close to some of the clients & patients. My favorite part of the day is getting to sneak into an exam room to play with a kitten or get to hold a puppy in the lobby.
Pros
Leadership & management are very supportive of employee's personal and professional growth, Lots of opportunities to get overtime working relief shifts at different clinic, Does have benefits and opportunities for bonuses, Lots of training opportunities to help you advance and learn new things
Cons
Pay rate is below average, Medical coverage is not affordable, especially if you have a family and/or child(ren) (at leas they offer medical insurance?), Maternity/Paternity leave policy could be better, They aren't always completely fair with raises

Amazing Culture and Team Support
Practice Manager (Current Employee) - Texas - August 10, 2023
I've never worked at another corporate-owned veterinary hospital that nurtures and supports mental health and burn out concerns like TPH! It is an amazing place to work!

Very precise and detailed work
Doctor Bloom is very knowledgeable. As long as you understand his personality and do your job, you'll get along well. Being a detail oriented person is a plus.

Fun and productive place to work
Office Assistant – Internship (Former Employee) - Pittsford, NY - July 16, 2023
This was an internship only. I did not get paid. I learned much from this position., I learned about inventory, scanning documents, transferring paper files to electronic files, etc. This was an over all enjoyable position.

Only nice to your face
Veterinary Technician (Former Employee) - Bettendorf, IA - July 13, 2023
Seems great but there's lots of talking behind peoples backs. Also those with disabilities are not treated fairly and are picked on and bullied. Definitely a toxic work environment.

Revolving door of management
Veterinary Technician (Current Employee) - Albuquerque, NM - June 12, 2023
Went though multiple managers in my time there. Poor communication. They claim to understand mental health but is like every other veterinary practice.
Pros
Decent amount of support staff
Cons
You can't help individual pets/owners like you can in a doctor owned small practice.

Busy and always stressed
Veterinary Technician (Former Employee) - Austin, TX - June 3, 2023
The doctors are great to work with overall. There were so many times we were supposed to be closed at 6pm but a walk-in would be taken right as we were closing which forced us to stay past our shift. There needs to be better organization with inventory and ordering inventory, better staff training, better wages for high performing employees who can do the work of 3 people, letting go of the underperforming employees that bring down morale, and more recognition for our hard work. Appreciation at vet tech week is not enough. Scheduling is not flexible for those of us with families. Constant guilt tripping if you need to call out because your kid is sick while the manager is allowed to bring her kid every day. The number of times I had to open by myself in the mornings was too many. This consisted of checking in all surgery and drop off patients by myself, taking TPRs on all by myself, having a CSR assist with restraint so I could draw blood for surgical patients, putting in catheters by myself or with a CSR, setting up surgery and dental suites by myself. Meanwhile there is no recognition for any of that and the person who no called no showed gets a slap on the wrist. It became a very toxic place once all the good employees started leaving and you’re left picking up more and more work. Hardly any raises, always overworked, and burnt out from lack of good management.
