Lots of favoritism too much drama
Cashier (Former Employee) –  5107 highway 90August 1, 2019
Store manager hired a life long friend who got special treatment left to go cash her check while on the clock. Always avoiding work spends time in office playing on phone with store manager. Likes to tell others what to do like she is incapable of doing it herself. Too much drama and lazy coworkers who sit in the back to avoid customers. Also talks about everyone. Not a good work eenvironment

It's a great job to start off with but it's not a guarantee to help with bills check are going to come out super low. But if your looking for your first job and trying to learn to balance school and work then u should go there.
Pros
Get a 30 min lunch
Cons
U don't get many hours and they are really slow

Poor work place
Cashier (Former Employee) –  Pensacola, FLApril 2, 2019
The management is poor, along with the workers. Everyone was ignorant and bashful. The manager never kept anything confidential and made its way through the entire store. I would never recommend someone to work there

Poor management and over-hiring
Cashier (Former Employee) –  Mesquite, TXFebruary 20, 2019
The problem with this Tom Thumb is that the management was very poor. The manager picks on the new employees, calling out every mistake made but no praise for the good things done. No one knew what was right and what was wrong. Management makes overtime mandatory without pay.
Also, management over hired twice. They had to cut hours to 4 hours a week per employee. This job is not an ideal one to apply for.
Pros
Discounts on store items
Cons
Poor management, over hiring, small pay

Pretty easy job
Cashier (Former Employee) –  Irving, TXFebruary 2, 2019
This job is okay if you are only temporary do not think you will be able to live off of this job for too long. Dealing with impatient customers and slow waiting times willl have a tug on you but overall pretty easy job.

Unless you bring a bed pan don't expect to get a bathroom break without permission. 6 hours and a 15 min break if your lucky. No baggers so you do that too. Low pay. Good for college kids.
Pros
None
Cons
They have a timer

It serves it purpose if you need a job immediately.
Cashier (Current Employee) –  TexasAugust 19, 2017
It is an okay place to work. I enjoy the customers. It is good for someone just moving to the area who needs a job immediately, for someone who really does not want a full-time job, and someone in school. The pay is not good. To get a raise, it's like pulling teeth.
Pros
Part time
Cons
Low pay

Cashier (Former Employee) –  Hialeah, FLJuly 27, 2017
Worked 3 years without a salary review. Cashiers needs to replace any shortage even if other person worked in your register. On top, receive a warning up to termination.
Pros
Very tolerant and humble non management employees.
Cons
Employee need to pay for uniforms, food, gasoline. No discounts.

Tom Thumb is like any other grocery store. I worked as a cashier; the job is very redundant. The employee is on their feet all day either checking or stocking.
Pros
Friendly co-workers
Cons
Standing all day

Cashier (Current Employee) –  Milton, FLJuly 11, 2017
Even before I worked with Tom Thumb, it had always been my favorite convenient store to go to. Working there doubled it. No matter what problems you had in your personal life as soon as you walked into work the employees made your day 10x better within seconds. The customers are great and so is the management. They truly care about their employees.

Expectations unreasonable
Cashier (Current Employee) –  Panama City, FLMay 2, 2017
Extremely fast-paced, which is good. However, expected to do chores daily, to include mopping, sweeping, garbage inside and outside, clean bathrooms, stock, etc., which require you to be away from front counter.

Friendly environment with fun people
Cashier (Former Employee) –  Trophy Club, TXFebruary 25, 2017
A typical day at would would be a manager approaching me the moment I would get on site, going over everything that would need to get done before I left and then once the information was relayed to me he would leave and I'd be alone to complete these. Having worked there I learned how to multitask without overwhelming myself, but also getting things done correctly the first time. The hardest part of the job was usually the amount of work id have to juggle on top of getting customers out of the door quickly. However everything was always good because the best part about working there alone was having my music on me at all times.
Pros
Working alone
Cons
No breaks with constant rushes of people

Tomm Thumb
Cashier (Current Employee) –  Dallas, TXAugust 23, 2015
Great place to work, friendly environment. A very flexible schedule. Learned PLU codes, how to work a checker account. Co-workers were friendly but many of us had pressure to keep customers happy- by doing our job very fast. Which made the work hard.
Pros
Flexible
Cons
Not high salary
