Making smoothies and food for people. Learned how to supervise staff to do the job correctly. Management wasnt on site much. Most of the workers were high school students that didnt work as ahrd as they needed too.

Leadership Team Member (Current Employee) –  Lafayette, LAJuly 17, 2018
Working at tropical is so much fun and you meet really great people! You definitely learn alot with the training process. The pay is definitely not worth working at tropical smoothie though, sad to say. Labor can get tough and it is pretty hard to get a .25 cent raise much less make it to a leader position.
Pros
50% discount, 30min breaks

working at tropical smoothie was good at first until people started calling out of work and not showing up for their shifts so you have to stay and pick up the slack. the manager didn't act like a manager i was a shift leader i had to pick up the slack.

Everyday was a good day at work although we could have a line of people out the door at any given second. Managers and coworkers were very likable and fun to be around.

A Typical Day.
Assistant Store Manager (Current Employee) –  Westland, MIJuly 13, 2018
A typical day includes, deep cleaning the entire store, making smoothies in under 3 minutes while making sure the correct ingredients are in the smoothies as well as in the food while making sure the food gets out in under 5 minutes. Always making sure costumers are greeted when entering and leaving, and making sure costumers are satisfied with their purchases and if not we'd remake their items and if they are still not satisfied we conclude in refunding the costumer. Rushes come in and it is all hands on deck which is the most enjoyable part of the day. I learned to handle all different situations calmly and strategically while making sure everyone is content with the outcome.
Pros
Discounts when working.
Cons
Short breaks, no paid vacations unless you are a manager.

Friendly but at times stressful
Crew Member and Cashier (Former Employee) –  Fort Myers, FLJuly 10, 2018
Working here is nothing to harsh and it’s rather easy to learn and become part of the team. There will be times that it gets stressful and you really have to be moving and doing something every minute of the time you’re there which is expected. If problems occur, I could always rely on a crew member for help.

Smoothie Maker (Current Employee) –  Hyannis, MAJuly 10, 2018
At Tropical Smoothie Cafe, there is a good staff working behind you making sure you never get too stressed out. I really enjoy working here because of the pacing it has, not too busy but also not too dead.

Poor management lead to poor employees
Crew Member (Current Employee) –  Norfolk, VAJuly 9, 2018
Busy during the lunch rushes. Management never wanted to answer the phone for potential employees. Management is unprofessional.
People who have learned all stations (register, smoothies, food) are paid the same as someone who only knows one station or who has just started unless they are a supervisor (which is only an additional 50 cents). Because of treatment from the store owner and management there is a little to no motivation for employees to go above and beyond, and even if they did it would not be recognized. The hardest part is the customers and working with bad coworkers. Nothing really enjoyable about working there
Cons
No breaks even if you work 8+ hours, same pay as someone new

Poor management but fun atmosphere
Team Member (Current Employee) –  Norfolk, VAJuly 8, 2018
I am not a big fan of the manager due to just immature behaviors, but, other than the manager, i found the job to be fun and that the days didn’t drag on because you were always busy with something. It can be hectic at times but nothing to difficult to handle.
Pros
free food and smoothies
Cons
Too many hours, very little pay with very small raises as you progress

Shift Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Clarkston, MIJuly 2, 2018
the job itself was fun and fast paced making the day go by fairly quick, however, the ownership is horrible. If you like being micromanaged every second of the day this is the place to be

CASHIER (Former Employee) –  Port Saint Lucie, FLJuly 1, 2018
As one of my very first jobs I learned a lot and grew up quite a bit in the workforce. Between customers and smoothie blending it was definitely a job I would recommend to anyone just starting out in gaining work experience.

Even in a management position the pay is still bad. No breaks unless working a double shift and you beg for it. Very dirty work place to work in. Only thing good about this place is the flexible work schedule.
Pros
