The best reasons to leave would be either retirement or one has found a job the can match the benefits that Uncle Sam offers ( fully paid school, cheap health insurance, etc.) Once you reach a certain point in your military career it is more beneficial to finish your 20 years and retire than it is to get out.
I reached my mandatory retirement date (MRD) and had to retire.
