U.S. Customs and Border Protection
U.S. Customs & Border Protection Officer (Former Employee) –  Derby Line, VTSeptember 30, 2018
U.S. Customs and Border Protection evolved after 9/11. U.S. Customs Service and the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service became U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The job change was immense as we all had to learn so much more. We were no longer a service but more into law enforcement. Officers could no longer make decisions.
Pros
Very good pay and benefits for this area
Cons
Very little family time

Focused Mission Set - Secure and Facilitate
Director Intelligence Operations (Former Employee) –  Washington, DCJune 6, 2018
Premier US Border Agency, both enforcement and regulatory focused, secures the US border and facilitates the flow of goods and people in and out of the country.

Workdays are full with challenges to address the mission; accompanied by a cadre of dedicated men and women on the job.

Management is well focused, prepared, professional and supportive.

Workplace culture is one of family dedicated to the security and well being of our country.

Challenging as US border operations never shut down.

Enjoyable and rewarding, as you are part of an overall US government effort to keep our country safe and functioning.
Pros
Promotion opportunities for growth

Challenging and Rewarding Career
U.S. Border Patrol Supervisor (USBP) (Former Employee) –  Chula Vista, CAOctober 13, 2017
I served with the USBP for over 23 years and don't regret a day of it. There were lots of challenges and great experiences along the way. Yes, there are those in the organization best suited for other careers, but they are the exception and not the rule.

If you are considering the CBP as a career, you could do a lot worse, so go for it !!

Get ready for very long unpredictable hours, no family life, politically motivated policies run the organization. Great Benefits but at a cost to your personal life. Travel is a plus to all over the US and some foreign assignments.
