Wonderful atmosphere to work in.

The people and the campus create a great place to work and grow. I am really trying to return to work there soon if I find anything available. The company is family based and they really believe in the job work/life balance.

Great benefits and coworkers. Management and FDA leadership does not care about employees.

The good:Opportunities for advancement if you work hard. Great compensation and benefits. At times you feel like you are doing something important. The bad:FDA continues to pass burdensome regulations which do not effectively increase the protection of public safety - starts to feel like you are just a government bureaucrat instead of helping people. Work load exponentially increases each year but employee numbers stay the same. FDA headquarters does not care about employees stationed elsewhere in the US. Management is not interested in any input and for the most part only want to make themselves look good.

Good place to work - would be GREAT if contractor pay equal to FTE pay

Great people to work with. Customers are friendly and mostly accommodating during pandemic. Management leaves you alone, but you also can't get equipment/supplies either. IT rules/regs are sometimes frustrating since can't always solve issues because if them. Scissors - didn't have for 1yr - a user took pity on me and sent me some from another office. Pay sucks - I am a contractor and they don't pay nearly what a full-time employee makes - about 50% less and do most of the work :(. Job security not great and no chance for advancement as a contractor. Get to work from home - but full time IT person lazy and rarely comes in for onsite tickets so I have to go in their place >:( . Hilariously, keeping safe there is a challenge as no face masks provided and empty hand sanitizer bottles everywhere. Breakroom Fridge is ***DISGUSTING***.

Pros

People are cool, location is very aesthetically pleasing, work consistent but not high volume, some informal training given routinely.

Cons

No chance for advancement, Contractor pay is estimated 50% less than FTE, contractor does most of the work, cannot order supplies, No hand sanitizer or masks, fridge absolutely DISGUSTING, No freebies/perks whatsoever, work from home opportunity unbalanced due to lazy coworker

Love my job

The best job to have and to grow within the department you work for. FDA is very accommodating to all employees and is fair when it comes to moving forward. Love it

Shift in management caused poor work environment

Before the recent change in management, FDA was a 5 star place to work. Now you don't get to have an opinion, you don't get to share your expertise, and decision making is in the hands of non-scientists. Staff are overworked, unappreciated and miserable.

Pros

Telework which will soon be going away

Cons

Management, workload, morale

Sucks

Run away ! No work life balance. Huge amounts of travel. They care nothing about employees and promote the worst employees first.. horrible place to work

Mission Driven & Interesting Work Dealing With The Essentials

Employees are dedicated to the American people food and drug safety. There are special program areas for different commodities. Some competent employees have left after not being promoted. In general there are no advancement opportunities for other ethnic groups. The ORA leadership has stress diversity and inclusion, but that is nonexistent here. There have never been any Asian American or African American supervisors here. My coworkers continue to wonder whether it is possible to have a career path with FDA. Beware!

Pros

Telework

Cons

No promotions

What a disappointment at FDA

Good mission, bad people. There is no inclusion especially in supervisors. We continue to lose people with eastern language skills. In FL communities are complaining about CSOs. There is a lack of cultural awareness for others.

Pros

Help people

Cons

Hostile cultural atmosphere

Good career

A lot of opportunity to grow. Company hires from within and believes in their employees. Work/life balance is what you make of it. You have to be capable of juggling and wearing many hats.

Just okay

Unless you don’t mind a semi depressing environment, don’t work here. I can’t begin to tell you how many disgruntled employees are here. Sure, the company does what they can to make sure employees are treated well, compensated well and have a healthy work/life balance but the environment is very catty and management seems to be blind to it. It’s hard to avoid coworkers who just aren’t happy and this makes others also u happy. Lots of employees stay here for about a year or two and then leave for something better or transfer to another building. You don’t see the same faces for too long.

Pros

Pay, benefits, different opportunities, fun activities

Cons

Coworkers

Professional, productive and enjoyable work place

Thoroughly enjoyed the sense of purpose, structure and quality of co-workers and management in which quality professional relationships were made. Supportive environment where teamwork and desire to elevate and achieve the mission and goals were both key elements of the work time along with good sense of humor and human interaction. Fair and supportive and methodical advancement with good work and grade. A sense of serving County and people! Loved it there.

Pros

Flex-time, great benefit choices, good salary and promotion structure. Potential for education assistance.
