I worked at the Mint for several years during, as it turns out, one of its most historic periods. What was once a sleepy little coinmaking enterprise became the dot-com that Thomas Jefferson built, taking online coin sales by storm. The popularity of the 50 State Quarters series led to creative partnerships with US Postal Service, NASCAR, Beany Babies - more ... and more, and I personally took some uncirculated Ohio state quarters to Florida so they could ride into space aboard a Space Shuttle.
