Great part time work, hard to transition in to full time if you're already working
Package Handler (Former Employee) – Indianapolis, IN – December 15, 2017
The scheduled hours for days vary, so the "5p -10p M-F" may be more like 430p-10p etc.
Usual day, you get there, get assigned a trailer. If you're a good unloader you may get moved around to a bad trailer or a trailer that's taken too long to unload, but the supervisors are generally pretty great. The ones I saw there that were bad didn't last very long.
The only downside I had to working there was that I had a full time job already and the hours became too much. On top of that, I had wanted to transition to UPS for a FT position, but you have to become a part time supervisor. Part time supervisors start their day an hour earlier than the shift, and end an hour later. But you may not get 40 hours a week. You might get more, but it's uncertain.
With that uncertainty, I didn't feel safe leaving my full time job for the part time supervisor position at UPS, but that was the only path towards full time employment with the company.
It's hard work, physically. But I actually really enjoyed being there.
Great advancement opportunities if you can commit to their schedule
