What is the work environment and culture like at US Department of Agriculture?
Military-Like atmosphere. Special forces training in food safety. Training took 1 year by plan. Annual FDA Field recertification. Extremely challenging with narrow passing margin. No pass every year = fired. Tough special forces high bar. I obviously passed 15 times as evidenced by my 15 year employment. Low level of comradery. You are mostly on your own during all field inspections.

I was very lucky to get the interview. The questions asked were thoughtful. And, I had a genuine interest in the position.

It depends on the management style and the culture of the organization. However, a great deal of people would benefit for the opportunity and flexibility of teleworking. Not many businesses offer this opportunity. As a potential employee of any organization, I look for that flexibility and opportunity because I believe it can improve morale.
How long does it take to get hired from start to finish at US Department of Agriculture? What are the steps along the way?
Two Months. I was a contractor who submitted a short resume. This goes through a different hiring process.
What would you suggest US Department of Agriculture management do to prevent others from leaving?
They need to listen to employees and customer complaints and investigate and inforce when issues are valid.
