What is the best part of working at the company? Benefits within 30 days and facility is very clean. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Nurse shortage, high turnover, Patient to nurse ratio. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Management leaves nurse with high patient to nurse ratio, and will not high agency nurses, to help the full time staff. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Non stop work, Paperwork, wound care foley cath. Remove and reinsert. The morning employees would not work, and leave it for night shift.

Easy work but absolutely no communication with management
Program Support Assistant (Current Employee) - Overland, MO - November 30, 2023
The pay is pretty good, atleast for me coming from a job that paid $13/hr. There's alot of overtime you can do which is great for your check. Work is very easy but can be frustrating because alot of the applications we use are old and don't work right half the time. Biggest issue is the lack of communication with lower level employees. Protocols change all the time on how we're supposed to deal with cases and no one tells you. Also you have to put in vacation leave like a year in advanced which sucks if you don't have stuff planned that far ahead. All in all not the worst place but could be alot better

Managements are very controlling and can not share your input. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? One employee always emailed Manangement to complain instead solve the problems together as team. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Normal but mentally stressful due to management

Secure Job
Food Service Supervisor (Current Employee) - Ann Arbor, MI - November 29, 2023
There's a cap on how much you can make, no overtime offered. Management can be a hassle, and the culture is not great at all. Your position is secure and it's hard to lose your job.

Job Security and Decent benefits
Program Analyst (Current Employee) - Indianapolis, IN - November 28, 2023
There is good job security and decent benefits. Does not pay as well as the private sector and the workload can be overwhelming. Overtime is heavily discouraged instead it's paid as comp time.

Not happy VA
Administration Manager (Current Employee) - Jackson, MS - November 16, 2023
Culture is horrible Working with supervisors is the hardest The pay is the most enjoyable part of the job The VA has the potential to be great but no one speaks up about the things that go on because of fear of retaliation
Pros
Yearly increase
Cons
Poor management with zero accountability for managers who supervise on the lower levels

Decent benefit and patients but horrible bureaucracy
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Houston, TX - November 16, 2023
I worked here for 5 years already. The patients are actually nice to work with. However, many coworkers and ancillary staff are lazy and inefficient. It's hard to get anything done due to bureaucracy. Leadership only helps each other if they are friends. Too many employees have pointless jobs and there is never enough staff for actual patient care.

Benefits and work environment
Receptionist (Current Employee) - Texas - November 16, 2023
Great health and leave benefits. Definitely a great place to work if you enjoy helping veterans. Work environment not as much. People will tell on every little thing to get ahead.

Just an okay experience
Technician (Former Employee) - Fargo, ND - November 15, 2023
Be prepared to be overworked and underpaid. Unless you are a Title 38 employee such as a doctor or nurse your work won’t be valued. They bend over backwards for them all other disciplines take a back seat. The amount of work doesn’t justify the pay. Co workers and management were good could have been better. The VA is focused on metrics It’s all about money. Private sector is where it’s at! The VA loves to shove the benefits down your throat after working there I would say It’s not worth It.
Pros
Weekends off
Cons
Work load, low pay, stress and burn out
