Working for a smaller defense/ software development company was exciting however had the drawback of uncertainty when it came to job security. The reason for this would be that the company is extremely product specific and without guaranteed high dollar contracts or work it is unable to prevent layoffs and sustain a permanent workforce.
Workplace is mostly relaxed and informal, pressure to perform is only applied when deadlines are approaching. Time management is oriented toward results rather than time on the clock ( core hours must be worked but outside of that, employees are usually allowed to set their own work hours).
