Dont' wish to say (Current Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYOctober 15, 2018
I truly enjoy working at Unifrax. I have had a long and fulfilling career at this company. Although it is currently going through some transitions, I am hopeful that it remains a stable and secure company. The growth potential looks very promising. Very good benefits.

Pay and benefits are great culture has gone down hill
A Operator (Current Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYOctober 14, 2018
This was a great place to work until about 4 years ago when managment started being all about the numbers. They have become very cutthroat and care not about their people and families. People here have become nothing but numbers which is why I am on Indeed looking and even willing to take a pay cut to leave the hostile work environment.

labor (Former Employee) –  Columbiana, OHAugust 26, 2018
Worked there for 12 yrs it is ok place to work. They have a high turn over rate because they don't treat employees with repsect.. they pay was good at first then I had to take a leave of absence and took a huge pay cut and was promised raises when I came back and didn't get any

Awful place to start a career
Too specific (Current Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYFebruary 8, 2018
There is little to no recognition for good performance vs bad performance. Being a great employee and constantly receiving good reviews gets you the same annual “raise” as the employee that does nothing all day. They have been in a “transition period” for years now saying they are going to work on employee retention and development but minor changes have happened. Bad employees and good employees are lumped together and not viewed as highly as new hires. May be a good place for a new employee but if worked here before the new management team you are going to be left behind and underpaid. Good luck if you are willing to risk it because they don’t appreciate the good employees they have now.
Pros
If you do minimal work no one will fire you
Cons
No growth opportunity, underpay vs market value, all employees are replaceable attitude

Potential to be a great place but management not good.
Plant Operator B (Former Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYNovember 26, 2018
Not a hard job at all. If you can deal with the conditions (heat and itchy fiber) the job is relatively easy. Place is mismanaged. I feel like a lot of decisions were made out of spite against the union instead for the betterment of the company.
Pros
Easy Job, Ot
Cons
No paid sick days, Management, Not enough Air Conditioning

Engineering Co-op (Former Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYJune 18, 2018
A great place to be an intern, good pay, friendly atmosphere, and you are rewarded for your effort if you're willing to work hard. The company treats employees well and is constantly growing.
Pros
Hour lunch, great boss, many people are willing to teach you
Cons
Union/non-union relationships are often strained, products can irritate skin.

I like more of a faster pace. The management team is very lazy and not all that fair to the employees. The union is a joke and a waste of your money but you have to join.

Machine Operator (Former Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYNovember 1, 2017
A bunch of do nothing managers walking around and constantly shuffling paper trying to find a legitimate reason to be employed. That place needs to focus more on treating the workforce that makes the process possible better.
Pros
4 days away so you can recover from the 12 hour shifts and constant breathing in of carcinogens.
Cons
Management, being constantly overwhelmed, under appreciated

Not a good place for Professionals
Process Engineer (Former Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYOctober 6, 2017
Most of the reviews on here are clearly fabricated, so I will give a real one. Managers lack any real skill, and the plant work conditions are poor. The union is full of decent hard working people, but the leadership there has no idea how to lead with respect. The organization also lacks any real strategic vision or commitment to fix the real technical challenges, so everyone is left in fire-fighting mode over the same problems all the time. Also many false starts with their CI/Op Ex program which should be another red-flag to any professionals. They make a good product, and it could be an excellent place to work, but Plant leadership, who only ever learned how to manage there, is the root of all problems.
Pros
Not many
