Bad managment, vindictive
Cashier/Customer Service (Current Employee) –  Franklin, PAOctober 26, 2018
They work you to the bone without a single thank you. Sometimes for weeks straight, because people keep quiting because of the bad management. Managers don't want to do anything but paperwork and leave when they're done. If they happen to cashier none of the normal cashier duties apply to them. No one stays there long, and even regular customers have stopped coming. Managment uses their own ID when certain customers (usually their friends) ID's don't scan.

Sometimes laid back, sometimes stressful
Assistant Manager (Current Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYJanuary 16, 2018
Days could consist of either doing nothing at all, or dealing with nonstop issues. It can be a good job when everybody does their job, but that is usually not the case. I would regularly get stuck working 20 hour days due to people calling off. Pay rate was laughably low for an assistant manager. Wouldn't recommend working there unless you really need some money.
Pros
can be a relaxing, easy job
Cons
low pay, expected to deal with way too much

The job is very challenging if you intend to advance there's room to grow as long as your willing to do orders manage 40 people and stock, receive, check, rotate and set up new venders. Keeps you very busy
Pros
Gives you a good challenge to make you better at your job

There are very few breaks and long hours

When you have management down from Warren they don't talk to the cashier's. I guess we were just not good enough for them. You got called into work all the time cuz people didn't show up for work.
Pros
You could go out and smoke anytime as long as there were no customers.
Cons
No breaks .

Getting to help customers with all their gas and food needs on a day to day basis
Customer Service Associate (Former Employee) –  Liverpool, NYFebruary 25, 2017
A typical day at work is helping customers fill their gas tanks and cashing out any food or drink purchases in addition to maintaining a clean environment and making sure all shelves are stocked.I learned how to work well in a public setting, how to assist customers with problems and extended my math capabilities. The culture was friendly and diverse. The hardest part was long shifts and late overnight hours sometimes and the most enjoyable was being able to meet so many new people on a daily basis.
Pros
Friendly atmosphere
Cons
Late hours

Fun, productive work environment, fantastic coworkers
Cashier (Current Employee) –  Zelienople, PAAugust 25, 2016
My experience at United Refining was fantastic overall. My coworkers and managers directly above me were nothing but the best, and we all had synergy. The upper-level management; however, had a tendency to give vague instructions and demands, which caused confusion on our part from time to time. That being said, the positive aspects definitely outweighed the negative ones.
Pros
Gas discount, flexible hours, healthcare benefits
Cons
Sometimes short-staffed, vague demands

worked with me, but difficult to make a career
Cashier/ Crew Member (Former Employee) –  Cortland, NYAugust 20, 2013
While working here through college, the managment were very supportive and accomodating for school. The work was basic cashier stuff, working witht he public, stocking shelves and running the cash register. a Typical day could have been assisting customers, stocking shelves and putting away orders, and cleaning the store.
Pros
steady work, flexible
Cons
short breaks, tedious work, and poor pay
