All of these responses are true. Very fast paced. Like expecting 10 minute turnovers even after a messy 4 hour shoulder arthroscopy. I didn't get hired as a surgical tech as I had thought. Apparently my job also required safety officer, biomedical waste, instrument decontamination, sterile processing department. On days when cases are booked from 0700 til 9:45pm, everything else listed is still required of you. Then the following day, you get a call off. Then sometimes they try and have you take another day as well. It wasnt exactly feast or famine, it was lack of Dr block time, cases can be put on the schedule at 5 pm then expected to have instrument trays brought in, decontamination washed, dried and sterilized for an 0700 case the following morning BUT, most of the staff has already left for the day due to lack of cases. That means having an employee(tech) come in at 0500 to get the instruments ready, then have to have the Dr sign off on a piece of paper stating that he knows the tray was used prior to the biological incubating for its full cycle to determine sterility. I could go on and on as to how the treat their employees( if your not sacrificing more of your life to this job, they don't want you) but, I should stop here. Beware

Trust no one, never speak truth, only go to corporate and then remain anonymous. They dont care un till your fired, then it will just help the people after your gone.
