Best place for document review
Ediscovery Reviewer (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAMarch 2, 2018
Unitedlex is the best place I have worked for document review. Like other review jobs your a bit underpaid and there is not security. The office in Richmond has individual desks which is more comfortable then the long table-cattle trough set up of most places. Usual clicks and favoritism with managers does affect which jobs you get.
Pros
Own desk, some benefits after 2000 hours of employment, free parking
Cons
Temp. work, no vacation

Awful place to work but it pays the bills.
Contract Attorney (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAAugust 18, 2018
You will see favoritism and cliques bad management and overall non-collegial work environment. On the other hand if you get in and out and have no one notice you you’ll get paid and be done with it. It’s no way to make. Careee but it’s fine for a way to ride out waiting for the right job or bar results. Some have eased through the muck and come to like it there. If you become one of the blessed then you can maybe even like it and advance. Mostly if you are a white male or non-threatening while female. Otherwise forget it (unless you’re married to someone up top)
Pros
Not much
Cons
Just about everything.

Make your own way
Litigation Consultant (Current Employee) –  Cincinnati, OHJuly 17, 2018
Company has widely mixed experience depending on office location, vertical assigned to and management reporting to. If you work hard and want to learn, it is definitely as self-starter environment with great opportunities to create your own world. However, it's very easy to get lost or hide if your not ready to go after it.

Zero percent training and hundred percent expectations. Lack of management and clear instructions and materials. Zero communication. In general, the company does not care about the quality of the work to be delivered.

E-Discovery Attorney (Former Employee) –  Cincinnati, OHNovember 9, 2018
A steady document review job. While local management is fairly understanding, corporate control is unconnected with the day to day job and the ignorance shows.
Pros
Somewhat flexible schedule.
Cons
Micromanaged

A typical day at work
Contract Reviewer (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GAJanuary 7, 2019
A typical day at United Lex included checking with team leaders to determine if the protocol for the contract had been expanded or changed. Next working to meet established deadlines and personal expectations.

Very Demanding
Manager (Former Employee) –  Miami, FLDecember 6, 2017
On call round the clock, low salary for hours committed. Good company with lots of growth. Industry has high turnover, workers are disposable. Only for people who can manage stress well and have no problem working and being on call at all times. Plenty of room for growth for talented individuals, just don't expect huge salary.

Opportunity to telework and be independent but not much on taking care of employees
Senior Contract Manager (Former Employee) –  Overland Park, KSSeptember 23, 2018
Opportunity to telework and be independent but not much on taking care of employees. They will drop you fast if there is no work and make promises that never happen to keep you on.

Easy going and flexible place to work
Project Attorney (Current Employee) –  Columbus, OHJanuary 16, 2017
UnitedLex is probably the best Document Review job an attorney can get. While most Doc Review companies over-hire and do mass layoffs every few weeks or months, UL schedules its workflow very well and makes sure to keep as many people employed as long as they can.

Supervisors are very friendly and always willing to help. The company culture is easy going, but professional. Also, great place for working parents, solo practitioners, or recent law grads looking for other work because UL is very flexible with hours. Free CLEs are also available from time to time.

Only downside is that there are no benefits (or very little) worth mentioning until you get higher up in the company. Otherwise, no significant complaints.
Pros
Flexible hours, good corporate culture
Cons
No benefits for project attorneys

Good...for document review
Contract Attorney (Former Employee) –  Blue AshAugust 31, 2014
If you find yourself in a position where you must accept temporary document review positions, this is probably the best one. The office is casual and the work is done at a single, comfortable location. Aside from that, just like every document review company, your professional misfortune is going to be exploited for someone else's gain. Poor pay, dreadful work, no benefits and a very dubious practice of not paying for overtime. Take comfort in knowing that the poor folks who work there as managers are being exploited even worse. They frequently work 90 (!) hour weeks for less than 60,000 a year. I have seen them pull 36+ hour shifts on several occasions. Ouch.

It could be worse.

Basic contract document review
Contract Attorney (Current Employee) –  Richmond, VAMarch 16, 2016
The office environment is usually pretty laid back. It's not stressful for the most part and everyone is friendly. Management is sometimes over the top with enforcement of our phone use, which is supposed to be permitted in short periods of time while working. It's a very flexible job with a reasonable weekly minimum requirement and the company is good about holding onto you if you do good work and want to continue to stay here even though your project may end.
Pros
Flexible hours, friendly environment
Cons
No benefits, PTO is terrible

Just a Doc Review Job
Project Attorney (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GAJune 9, 2018
I got this doc review job after leaving my place of employment. It's o.k. but you are pretty much chained to your desk. I think the managers are cool. There are some weird people that work here. You are given docs to review and the instructions are constantly changing about things so it is what it is.
Pros
Free starbucks, tea, etc.
Cons
Really no breaks unless you clock out. Snack machine costs too much.

Good place to work document review
CONTRACT ATTORNEY (Current Employee) –  Miami, FLJanuary 28, 2018
Management cares about employees and the hours are convenient for someone who is not looking for full time permanent placement. Most review centers are open from 7am -7pm with no restrictions on working hours except to maintain minimum of 37.5 per week.
Pros
free starbucks coffee
Cons
all overtime is paid at straight time; hourly rate is low

It' s Just Document Review
Project Attorney (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GAJune 18, 2018
It's just a basic document review job. The team I worked on was very confusing as you would be scored on how well you did the previous week. I think this is just bizarre. If you were selected for QC (Quality Control) you are given a lot of over time.

Projects begin and end with very little warning. It is a very young environment, and the people are generally pretty friendly. The work consists of repetitive document review.

No Healthy Culture
Employee (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAMarch 17, 2018
The only healthy culture there is among the 'good ole boys' club. (female's included). Watch your back and keep your head down. Bonds among tenured associates is very tight and they are threatened by anyone with new/different ideas/views, or anyone who questions their policies & procedures.
