Very negative culture, career dead end
AP Analyst & Master Data Manager (Former Employee) –  Redmond, WAFebruary 11, 2019
The company was only focused on moving the company to Chicago while treating the Redmond based employees as expendable commodities. Low pay, low employee morale, poor opportunities for career advancement.

Customer Service Lead (Former Employee) –  Providence, RIFebruary 6, 2019
Overall, Univar is a great place to work. There is always room for advancement. They treat their employees with respect. There is always ongoing safety training as it is a chemical distribution center.

Too Much Red Tape
Operations Manager (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GADecember 28, 2018
With the change in upper management, the amount of red tape increased to the point that major decisions take an extremely excessive amount of time to make. Senior leadership does not trust their front-line managers to make organizational and operational decisions they were hired to make.

Internal promotions are few and far between, resulting in external hires that are brough in at a higher salary than peers in the same department. Employees talk, so this information gets out, creating a morale issue.

The company stresses importance on safety, but there have been many instances where employees were acting in a careless fashion, without regards to safety initiatives, and they were allowed to stay with the company because managers don't have the time or desire to hire and train new employees.

Great Environment
Sales (Former Employee) –  ChicagoDecember 9, 2018
Univar is a very large company. With this, comes difficulties in communication between various levels of leadership at times. With this said, Univar has improved tremendously in recent years with turnarounds in management, and do make having a positive work environment a top priority.

Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  Morrisville, PADecember 4, 2018
A lot of cold calling for the job. basically all cold calling. They tell you that you are guaranteed a job and then when you get there, you apparently have to interview for a job again. Pretty garbage way to treat new trainees.

Senior Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) –  Redmond, WANovember 27, 2018
I enjoyed working at Univar until a new CEO arrived approximately 4 years ago and decided to move the Corporate office to Chicago. After that, the morale steadily declined as more positions were moved to Chicago.
Pros
Great people, good benefits.
Cons
Knowing that as soon as the lease expired in early 2020, most jobs would go away. Hard to keep up morale.

Ok place to work but there are constant changes in the way you do your job everyday and you always have to cover your butt because they like to place blame.

Facilities Director (Current Employee) –  Redmond, WANovember 5, 2018
Facilities positions require a self starter that can prioritize and will be busy with something different everyday. Given the autonomy, with the skills a person possesses to make common sense fiscally responsible decisions, it is a very enjoyable place to work. Seeing a construction project through to completion is most satisfying.

Facilities employees are on call 24/7 7 days a week for any issues that may arise with the facility.
Pros
Organizing employee inclusive events
Cons
Building issues

Very high paced work environment: The ability to multi-task is a must!
Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Denver, CO 80216October 3, 2018
This is a very high stressed work environment. You must be able to prioritize your duties well and have very good multi-tasking skills. The good part about the job is the fact that your constantly learning something new so it's hard to get completely burned out.
Pros
The pay is great. There are many duties to be done, which for some people, is better than doing one particular thing all day/ every day.
Cons
You are micro managed.

A/P Vendor Contact Specialist (Former Employee) –  Redmond, WASeptember 18, 2018
Loved working there until a struggle between supervisors became imminent and employees were used as pawns or scape goats.

Training was available but depending on your supervisor whether you were able to participate or not. Was excluded from the training and therefore made job difficult to do in a timely manner due to always having to go to someone to find out how to use the new software.
Pros
Free fruit in mornings and water bottles provided due to contractors.
Cons
Short breaks and micro managed by other employees as well as supervisors.

No team chemistry. Once the company went public the company was not successful. My department was being cut and the whole office was being re-organized.
