Good Place to Work!
Histotechnician (Current Employee) - Histology - December 8, 2021
High paced lab. Great management, lots of computer training for general hospital education. Doesn’t always apply to the position. Sometimes allowed flex scheduling. Pay to park.

The job was great. But, the walk to get there was not so great.
Medical Assistant (Triage) (Former Employee) - New Orleans, LA - November 1, 2021
The staff was excellent. I had a reaction to the flu vaccine that I had to take in order to accept the position. But, the time I was there was great. My workload was heavy but I enjoyed keeping busy.
Pros
Working with a great group of people.
Cons
The walk to get in the building.

Jobs at University Medical Center of New Orleans (UMC)
Overworked and underpaid
LPN (Current Employee) - New Orleans, LA - October 13, 2021
Not enough nurses, LPN's get too many patients compared to RN's. Charge RN's Minimal habe experience. Alot of lazy nurses and CNA's I took a 7 dollar paycut to work here, wrong move.
Pros
Lota of tshirts and trinkets
Cons
Very low pay for LPN's

Extremely Toxic
Respiratory Therapist (Former Employee) - New Orleans, LA - September 2, 2021
Respiratory therapist dept. Is a hostile and toxic work environment. Co-workers are malicious and deviant always working to undermined and hurt their fellow employees. Administration and management are aware and allow it! This why you see so many advertisements for jobs in this hospital. House needs to be cleaned from top to bottom and start over with all new employees thats only way!! Do not work here for any amountof money!
Pros
Pretty building
Cons
Toxic and hostile

Good place to learn
Accountant (Former Employee) - East Baton Rouge Parish, LA - August 2, 2021
Management was toxic. You are constantly being watched at all times. Favoritism is shown to the managers favorite people in the department. No one else matters.

Patient care
Patient Access Representative (Former Employee) - New Orleans, LA - June 26, 2021
HORRIBLE PLACE TO WORK FOR! They’re not compassionate individuals, they will over work you and praise the ones who does absolutely nothing. You have to fight to utilize your own PTO and if you tell them don’t use it, they still will

LOVE working here!!
RN/Staff Nurse (Current Employee) - New Orleans, LA - May 26, 2021
My experience at UMC has been terrific so far. Patient load is decent and manageable. Coworkers are professional, friendly, and, most importantly, care about the patients and doing a good job. Direct management is helpful and does try, but frankly middle management is never easy at the best of times. Bring your best to your team and in return, you'll get the best!
Pros
Coworkers
Cons
Occasionally work short.

It's a job
Clerical Admin (Former Employee) - New Orleans, LA - May 20, 2021
In my role there wasn't much room for growth. It was a job and it served its purpose. I enjoyed my work environment but there was no room for advancement. I was at my pay cap and decided to find something else. Holidays are taken out of your PTO time and if you are a new employee around the year end holiday times (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's ect) you will be billed and depending on your supervisor you won't be able to take off until you have 40hr in the bank for a rainy day
Pros
None

Head in the sand mentality - Don't want to acknowledge obvious racial biases
Current Manager (Current Employee) - Nursing - March 21, 2021
No initiative to change. "The way we always did it" Same old people in Senior Leadership roles, cronyism. Specialty areas get all the perks; Other areas are looked down on and first to always have to cut back
Cons
Horrible work culture that is filled with racism that is ignored, especially with ICU Senior Leadership

Not what I expected
Surgical Technician (Former Employee) - New Orleans, LA - November 16, 2020
Work-life balance Be very careful when interviewing for a surgical Tech position here. You can tell them what hours you can work but they won’t tell you before you’re hired that they staff to fit the needs of the business. All I can say is don’t waste your time applying here! Management It’s not management as a whole but some of the staff in management look at you as just another body that can be replaced. An open door policy doesn’t exist at this place. Overall Thankful for the experience I gained but I definitely won’t miss this place. Management could use some major changes moving forward! Don’t waste your time!
