Lack of Student Support
Work-Study groundskeeper (Former Employee) –  Santa Cruz, CAJune 18, 2019
Unfair pay for work-study students. A work study student earned an average of $12 an hour when the University hired a worker getting paid #19.50 an hour

Textbook Assistant (Former Employee) –  Santa Cruz, CAMay 21, 2019
I think the university paid fairly well if you are looking for a part-time job in Santa Cruz. Working on campus is a lot better than many other places if you don't have a car.

Great place to work
Director of Annual Giving (Former Employee) –  Santa Cruz, CAApril 22, 2019
UCSC provides a work environment that allows for creativity, new initiatives and team work. While the pay is not great, the other benefits certainly help to balance this out - health, retirement, colleagues, etc. There are many opportunities to advance, more laterally or try new areas along the way. A solid institution that I would highly recommend.

Ucsc
Administrative Specialist (Former Employee) –  Santa Cruz, CAAugust 15, 2018
UC Santa Cruz is a very complicated place to work. It is very difficult to feel as if you are making a good impact. Management is very narrow minded, they do not like to change any process even if it does not work.
Pros
Health Benefits
Cons
Day to day chaos and complicated procedures.

Chemical Inventory (Current Employee) –  Santa Cruz, CAJune 19, 2018
Doing chemical inventory and fume hood testing provides an awareness of safety attire and techniques when working in a lab facility. The hours are flexible and management is willing to work with students to better serve them.

We bake challah and sell it every week to raise money for local and national non profits fighting hunger. The setting is laid back and fun, and the group is run by truly passionate and kind people.

Applied Math and Statistics Grader (Former Employee) –  Santa Cruz, CAMay 20, 2018
I worked this job while being a student at UCSC. Work was distributed at the beginning of the week with graded papers returned to students by the end, with hourly allocation to this task entirely up to me. This was great to fit it into my packed schedule. Good compensation for good work.

Typical Higher Education
Department Support Assistant (Current Employee) –  Santa Cruz, CAApril 3, 2018
Typical higher education. Focused on the students more than staff development or staff culture.

The work environment is very old fashioned. The technology used is outdated for the most part and many tasks are still done by hand and take excessive time to complete.
Pros
Secure once you make it to vested
Cons
Salary not enough to live in the area

Research Intern (Former Employee) –  Santa Cruz, CAApril 2, 2018
This was an unpaid internship, so naturally the pay was bad along with the benefits. The culture was good, and it was a good place to learn the basics about working with field data.

Senior Building Maintenance Worker (Current Employee) –  Santa Cruz, CAJanuary 8, 2018
I really enjoy working at the University of California Santa Cruz. The people i work with make coming to work fun. This really is the best job I have ever had, they just don't pay enough money here to support a family due to high cost of living here in Santa Cruz.

Digital Media Specialist (Former Employee) –  Santa Cruz, CANovember 25, 2017
UCSC is a pretty laid-back place with very little pressure. There's not much room to grow, but if you like stability, this is the place to be. Good choice of benefits, not the greatest pay, but it's enough.

Easy job
Student (Former Employee) –  Santa Cruz, CAOctober 23, 2017
Easy but sometimes the pay is not worth it. It is competitive to get a job here even as a student. Some of the jobs are fun but way too unorganized for my cup of tea.
Pros
Work experience
Cons
There are some rude staff
