Employees stay for years
Academic Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Newark, DEAugust 21, 2018
If you have 10 years at the University, that's practically like a rookie compared to others. While longevity is a hallmark of the University, as are good benefits and competitive salaries, many positions don't have as much chances for growth as there could be -- namely because those superiors have 20+ years at that level...
Pros
benefits, vacation time, holiday week off without using vacation.

It would've been a great job but they want you to do Alot. Which is no problem cause of the pay but don't downgrade nobody cause we need the money. The managers are just rude and disrespectful.
Pros
The money and benefits

Slow and top-heavy
Database Administrator II (Former Employee) –  Newark, DEDecember 5, 2017
Don't expect the newest technologies. Don't expect technologies from 5 years ago. Do expect it to be a struggle to get anything done. Do expect to get pressured to do multiple projects all at once. Do expect incompetent management that changes priorities with the wind. Do expect an almost 1:1 ratio of director-level and above to actual workers. Really good 401K and health benefits, though.
Pros
Excellent benefits
Cons
Terrible, top-heavy management. Not great salary.

Drug and Alcohol Counselor (Former Employee) –  Newark, DESeptember 25, 2018
A typical day was setting up for meetings with students to help them cope with college life. The work place culture was fine as everyone in the office got along and was helpful to one another. There was nothing hard about the job, I enjoyed helping the students reach their full potential.
Pros
Keeping the students positive
Cons
The drive to the facility and traffic

Good Benefits, Bad Pay
Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) –  Newark, DEDecember 7, 2017
It's a good place to work in the sense that it's not high stress or high stakes, but the pay is low and they don't do raises. They offer great work life balance, but that is dependent on the mood of your manager. The health insurance, etc. is very good. Working with the students is always great.

Used to be a great place to work
Staff (Former Employee) –  Newark DelawareDecember 31, 2012
The sociopathic upper administration has hired their incompetent friends to key positions throughout. They will overlook more qualified internal candidates only to appoint friends who have no prior experience for position. Upper admin rewards themselves with high salaries, fancy offices (with six digit renovations) and bonuses while cutting hiring lines and staff raises. Employees in mid-level management positions are spineless and terrified of losing their jobs. Upper admin's management style and employee reviews encourages a high degree of office politics and backstabbing. No job stability even for those who display a high degree of talent, creative thinking and experience. Academic departments are under a great deal of pressure to prove their worth and those that don't bring in notoriety or large grants are struggling.
Pros
good benefits
Cons
bad management, terrible raises, lousy administration

Graduate Teaching Assistant (Former Employee) –  Newark, DESeptember 4, 2018
Typically you are required to work 20 hours a week on lab related responsibilities (teaching, grading, general preparations). As a teaching assistant this opportunity allows for improvement and optimization of your teaching methods.
