Stage Hand in Columbia, SC
on November 20, 2022
Everyone works hard. It was a great team to be apart of. Lot of fun, while not losing sight of safety. One of the best places I've worked as a stagehand. Management team was great to work for - always felt like they had our backs. If I hadn't moved across the country, I'd still work there.
Supervisor in Columbia, SC

Benefits are great! The ability for promotions seems to be an issue. Pay is below national average but it is a state job. I think there are areas things could be improved.
Senior Application Analyst in Columbia,SC
on October 29, 2022
Good people to work with and very supportive. Good compensation. I have my own office which is nice to keep some privacy. Lunch break and I can even go back home for a short nap. Workload is average. Not much pressure and easy work. Our team is small and some of them work from other places.
Welcome Center Receptionist in Columbia, SC

Co-workers and direct supervisors were the only reason I stayed for so long. Asking for raises was frowned upon, believed if anyone wasn't happy with their compensation they're free to leave. Barely any training was given to perform the job, a lot of work for little pay. However, since it is an on-campus job they were great about scheduling work around class schedules.

UofSC, on the department level, seems very supportive, especially if you have a great department head/chair. Work culture is tight and welcoming, though the passive aggressive nature and slowness of action reeks of poor academic culture in general. Hopefully with major administrative change at the top of the structure and in many department heads, the poor compensation and rigid inflexibility will improve. As older faculty and staff retire, the newer generations will eventually demand change
