It really varies quite a bit department by department. The leaders at the top determine what is acceptable work behavior. Personally I've seen a lot of HR issues go unreported. Some principal investigators will call you stupid and others will do everything they can to help you succeed.
Team Spirit and Hard Working
The work environment and culture is friendly and diverse. You meet people from all over the world with interesting backgrounds. The students are open and cool while staff is supportive and fun.

It is very cliquish and there is very little room for advancement without moving to a different department. If pay were more equitable with the rest of LA it would be OK; unfortunately the salary is low due to better than average benefits.
