The first time I applied to UNM as a new RN grad (with a BSN) I reached out to HR to speak to recruiters and express interest. This literally got me nowhere. I was rejected for many jobs, some I didn't even remember applying for!
Two years later, I put in an application at random and suddenly people were falling over themselves reaching out to me. I feel that if you are not coming with decent experience you really need to know someone or have made a good impression or your resume, application, clinicals, etc.
