Great if you are day staff
Eye and Tissue Team Leader (Former Employee) –  Buffalo, NYJuly 17, 2018
Company treats it's day staff (which is most people) great, however certain departments and positions certainly are made to feel like the black sheep of the company.

avoid them
blood donor services (Former Employee) –  Williamsville, NYJune 11, 2018
very poorly run company. long hours for low pay. all management cares about is that next bag of blood. you can work 10-12 hours or more and only get one half hour break. less than a 12 hour turnaround is common. you have little time for yourself not ideal for those with young families. they go through employees like crazy. do yourself a favor and avoid them
Pros
good medical plenty of vacation time
Cons
management, hard to have time off granted

The management at unyts is horrible. People that hardly do their work are protected while hard working people are let go. Management favors certain people and these individuals are protected.

Rewarding job
Eye and Tissue supervisor-Surgical Technologist (Former Employee) –  Buffalo, NYFebruary 23, 2018
I enjoyed my time spent at unyts and found it was fairly easy to move up the latter if that was what you desired. Everyone works together, and supports each other to get the job done. Unfortunately, the “on call” hours did not fit my lifestyle.
Pros
Pay, working with wonderful compassionate people.
Cons
Hours, unpaid travel time

Great mission
Anonymous (Current Employee) –  Buffalo, NYNovember 30, 2017
I have been at Unyts for 3 years now and can say I truly love the organization. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. Knowing that you come into work everyday to support the mission of enhancing and saving lives is what drives employees. Schedules in some of the clinical departments can be difficult, but that goes with the territory of working in healthcare, and understanding that what we do everyday is about our donors and donor families. We are here to enhance and save lives, that is first and foremost!
Pros
Great mission, generous paid time off
Cons
schedules for some clinical areas

For a person with no life
Phlebotomy Technician (Former Employee) –  Buffalo, NYNovember 16, 2017
I enjoyed working for this company when I first started, after several years passed its just now a job. The job does not accomadate you if you have family or health issues or plan on attending school. The schedule is not consistent it’s seems like you work longer days and they never allow overtime. You have to unload trucks with the equipment on it and pack up it’s not worth $13 to start. The staff makes the department great but management doesn’t care about their employees. It use to be a great place and the turn over is very high.
Pros
Accumalte vacation time, and staff and supervisors are great well a few are.
Cons
Long hours, not appreciated, not enough pay, raises are only .30cent a yr, high turnover, inconsistency

To save lives you can’t have one here
Blood Drive Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Buffalo, NYOctober 19, 2017
Ridiculous inconsistency with hours you can’t have families or obligations outside this position if you do it’s an inconvenience. The pay is enticing till you realize you are working 130 hours every two weeks.
Pros
Job has purpose

No life

Wegmans is a great place to work. As a starter job or as a job you want to stay with, depending on what you are looking to do. Very flexible with scheduling and care about you as a person.

no security or stability in position
Blood Services (Current Employee) –  Buffalo, NYDecember 2, 2014
The only great thing about working at unyts is the donors and the caring staff. Its really too bad it is not suitable for someone with family obligations or any obligations. The schedule is very inconsistant along with long hours of work that are mainly from 9am to 9pm. The company means well but has yet to find a system that flows. A lot of last minute changes. There's a constant rate of turnover in employees. There seems to be a lot of sharing of job duties among each dept. so its very confusing as to what your job duties are.

Print and Broadcast Media Team (Former Employee) –  Buffalo, NYSeptember 2, 2013
-Professional work opportunity for a semester throughout my advance public relations course
-Work to gain media coverage
-Main targets were newspapers, local TV stations, radio
-Gained insight on how a non-profit organization is managed
-Cooperated in a 6 person team
-Hardest part was obtaining media coverage
-Management within the team was moderated by assigning each person their won personal roles

coworkers and donors are awesome... The most difficult part of the job is the long hours. The most enjoyable part of the job is the donors.
