Head Start teachers at UCA get paid more than a lot of other preschool teachers (but still not much). Long story short I worked there for two years and had horrible experiences with supervisors and how they handle things. There is high turnover, poor management, high stress/workloads, and poor communication, and it is always understaffed. I only got 2 days PTO for the whole school year and you don’t get paid for summers off or holidays (but school is out anyway). They have a great mission and a lot of people have good intentions but they hire a lot of unqualified teachers and supervisors that can make working there unbearable. Because they are understaffed you often are covering two positions without more pay or help. They also don’t train you for the job adequately or effieciently. If the mission means a lot to you, and you think the low pay and poor management is worth it- good luck.
Positive mission, health benefits, decent pay for a preschool teacher
Poor management, high turnover, understaffed, stressful
